Re: Concentrated assholiness from the prayer thread.

We're all just complicated arrangements of atoms and subatomic particles - we don't live. But our atoms do move about in such a way as to give us identity and consciousness. We don't die; our atoms just rearrange themselves. There is no God. There can be no God; it's ridiculous to think in terms of a superior being. An inferior being, maybe, because we, we who don't even exist, we arrange our lives with more order and harmony than God ever arranged the earth. We measure; we plot; we create wonderful new things. We are the architects of our own existence. What a lunatic concept to bow down before a God who slaughters millions of innocent children, slowly and agonizingly starves them to death, beats them, tortures them, rejects them. What folly to even think that we should not insult such a God, damn him, think him out of existence. It is our duty to think God out of existence. It is our duty to insult him. smurf you, God! Strike me down if you dare, you tyrant, you non-existent fraud! It is the duty of all human beings to think God out of existence. Then we have a future. Because then - and only then - do we take full responsibility for who we are.

Sometimes my fellow non-believers embarrass the hell out of me.  Vegas did not make a demand.  He didnt ask any of you to change what you believe.  He asked those who felt moved to to offer hope for a troubled family.

And you had to crap on his thread and essentially be the agnostic/atheist version of say... Jehovah's Witnesses... inappropriately trying to shove your world view on others in a manner that is just as obnoxiously proselytizing as Christianity will ever be.

Shame on you.  Seriously.sad

Ministry of Free Thought
Controversy and Drama: Politics & Religion

Seems like a logical place to bring up religion to me

Which ironically is why I avoid that sub forum

Well I guess that would involve logic... in other words the complete opposite of religion.

look you childish little douchebag, get your underdeveloped head out of your ass for once and try to figure out what is going on around you. This thread wasn't started to discuss religion. I hope that you're no more than 16 years old because I hate to think that an adult could be so smurfing lacking that he can't see the word "religion" without feeling the need to go off on some irrelevant diatribe.

You've smurf all over Vegas's thread and consistently refused to get the message that your smurf is not appropriate here. I've met Asperger's sufferers with more of a clue than you.

Shut the smurf up, get the smurf out of this thread, and learn to not be a complete smurf.

I wasn't the one who started the off-topic ... "Does prayer do any good" ... I just stuck around.

I believe the term you are looking for is "wanted" not "appropriate" if it wasn't "appropriate" I would have a mod telling me to knock it off.

learn to not be a complete smurf.

when I have people telling me that the bible is not fiction ... I tend to come of that way.

I don't have a problem with this thread being moved to minithink

I just don't get why Christians feel that their views are the only right ones and why they feel they can push those views without repercussion. You guys think you can preach all you want, but as soon as someone else states their view .. it's all up in arms... what ever happened to turn the other cheek and all that.

Well, guess what? You're in Minithink, now. And you're also banned for a week, so plenty of time to sit on the toilet and think about this thread. And the other one you so cheerfully butchered.

Hope you find some time to think about what an smurf you were being above, too, and that when you come back you'll have realised that I will happily ban you again, and again, for consecutively longer periods until you just don't come back, if you keep this up.

The same goes out to all people who feel the need to smurf on the thread the drivel above was snipped from. Next one: two weeks. Then a month. Then permanently.

Go on and complain how this place has changed for the worse, why don't you. No sense of community, indeed. smurf like this didn't happen in the olden days. Change the world, one person at a time. Start with yourselves.

You must be a real christian to talk like that... wow

any who ... by your own religious beliefs, your going to hell for that.

Coming from someone who doesn't know anything about Christian doctrine or even about my own beliefs, that doesn't mean anything.

Bigger picture comment:
I really wish that people would learn that they don't have to voice their opinions at every given opportunity. For example, I tend to not read threads about TV shows or movies instead of saying "TV is a load of brain-softening crap and everyone should disconnect their cable like me." At least the last couple threads in Unplugged concerning gun ownership mostly stayed as people who own guns discussing them and not degenerating into politics.

If someone starts a thread on, say, various models of global climate change it does no good to come in and say "it's all a liberal myth to hurt American business." THe point of the thread would be for people who do accept global climate change to discuss finer points of it. It does no good to come in to a thread about which pistol to buy and say "you shouldn't buy any, your kids will accidently shoot themselves."

A better awareness of what the purpose of a thread is and what the starting point of the thread is is needed.

I'd love to have discussions with other theists, particularly resedit and StaticAge about theological points but I know that it wouldn't get three posts in without the phrase "big sky fairy" coming up and derailing.

in brief...
If a thread is about something you disagree with but is not about the validity of that topic, just don't read it or at least don't respond.

Well, it started with Vegas politely, kindly asking for well wishes, and if you so believed, prayer for a particular family in need.

It had nothing to do with what actually came up. The fact that it did come up is pretty damn ridiculous. I can't believe anyone would try and tear down someone's belief system in a thread where someone is dying and needed all the support/prayer/encouragement they could get.

The whole thing disappoints me.
