WBC Striking Again
it just seems that they get worse and worse every time...

for those that may not have come across the story this past week, a young girl, Lauren Burk, a freshman at Auburn University (here in Alabama) was found shot and pronounced dead shortly after. later, they discovered her car, a black Honda civic i believe, had been set ablaze.
and now the WBC is having a demonstration at her funeral (because she's Jewish) and a demonstration on the campus of Auburn (because American colleges are breeding grounds for fags or something ignorant like that).
1) i'm no advocate of violence, and i know that's what the WBC wants (to garner a victim card for themselves), but... good god, i would totally advocate the Frat Boys at AU stomping these smurfs into the ground (Burk, the girl who died was a member of Delta Gamma sorority).
2) as a liberal, democrat, Southern Christian, this is a hard pill to swallow. advocate for freedom of speech and assembly? check. hateful, ignorant, spiteful attitudes for the sake of... nothing? not so much. its such an embarrassment.
i just wanted to share. i don't know the girl, never met her, but i know lots of kids at AU who did know her. her death alone has been enough, but now for the WBC to make a trip... just... gah.

I am honestly surprised that no one has taken a baseball bat to these smurfs when they protest. I can only think there must be quite a lot of police present to prevent that.
If they came round my area I think I'd leather up and go to the protest to see if I couldnt get a boot in.

What should happen is a counter-demonstration where members of the Auburn student body not involved in the funeral could virtually surround the WBC folks with sheets held up with sticks to block the WBC signs from being seen and sing the Auburn fight song to drown them out.
Get there before the media can see the WBC and stick around until after the media or the WBC leaves.

the service on campus was/is today. i have no idea if anyone from the WBC showed up or not. if they did, i'd like to believe that the media here in the state is doing the right thing and ignoring them completely, although i'd like to know if they showed up.

just as a final note on this particular incident...
the WBC showed up at the Temple for the service, but there were enough people lined up, friends of hers, friends of the family, and the Freedom Riders group (a biker group that follows the WBC around for thwarting purposes) to block their activities from the family.
as far as i know, from my contact at AU who attended the service there, the WBC did not show up on campus.

I think that you may be referring to the Patriot Guard Riders or one of their associate groups fulfilling the second of their main objectives:
Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.
While they have mainly concentrated on the funerals for the war dead, I think they take the offense by the WBC personally and so help to thwart them when possible.
