Ruby On Rails .... on Mac OS X

first off ... i don't have 10.5 Server.  so i don't have access to the RoR environment that ships with that.

what i was wondering is if anyone knew of any RoR installers/packages that they'd recommend?  i remember using a Locomotive a while back but thought i'd see if anyone else had something they really liked.

Yeah, I don't know of a RoR binary, and some of the setup can be a little hairy, but there are some  very nice walkthroughs out there. Check out the Rails site and others.

Also, I've been meaning to download and play with Aptana, which is a RoR (etc.) development environment for cool web apps (think Ajax).

Re: Ruby On Rails .... on Mac OS X

i have the free version of Aptana.  the free version doesn't know what to do with .php files.  probably something reserved for the commercial version.

Where did PHP come from? Though it's good to know...

Re: Ruby On Rails .... on Mac OS X

I was going to make a new topic, but this one is close enough to avoid that...

Does anyone here know of any good RoR books? I'm an advanced php programmer, and I know c++ and some others, but not ruby. I have to make an intranet site and I like the speed of RoR (or what I've seen/heard of it). Thanks!

Install the PHP Plugin, and you'll be good to go.

Aptana is not just for rails, and is really a visual development environment for AJAX development.
