The tough question: do you think Obama will be assassinated?
Let's face it, the risk is real. He is, indeed, being compared to Robert Kennedy.
So let's just get it out there: what do you think the odds are of someone(s), from "lone nut" to establishment conspiracy, taking him down as a threat to the status quo?

Depends on if he actually threatens the status quo by his actions in office. I really don't expect anything more earthshaking than him kicking out George's good old boys.
I suppose there are people who consider him a threat because he's not a pinky.

I've wondered this myself. I've also wondered why no-one has tried to assassinate GWB. Maybe because only the good presidents get shot.

I'd like to think the Secret Service are pretty good at stopping the less-than-professional types who would want to try anything.

They can't protect him against anyone willing to die in the attempt. However, most of the smurf who would attack him because of his mixed race have a care for their own pink hide.

Low. I was at one of his rallies, and security was really good. Metal detectors, we had to turn on all of our electronic devices, and there were a ton of secret service there.

The white man is always tryin' to bring down the black man.
Unfortunately - there is a lot of truth to that, and there are a LOT of smurfing idiots in this country who will despise him passionately because of the color of his skin.
If he is elected to the presidency, I hope it never happens, but he's probably a bigger target for an assassin than any president in my lifetime because of the color of his skin.

Based on the findings of the report, my conclusion was that this idea was not a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious.

I think America in general has been too lazy to assassinate people.
Plus, wasn't the head of the KKK saying recently that on some level, Obama is better than Edwards, because at least he's not a race traitor?
But, if he were assassinated, it wouldn't be because of his race. It'd be because of some too progressive policy, and it'd probably be the CIA/other secret gov. organization that did it with the blessing of the shadow gov. /tinfoilhat

Is he being compared to Robert Kennedy for his character traits or because he's likely to be assassinated? If its character traits, then the fact that Kennedy was assassinated, is not all that relevant.
I woud say the odds are in fact pretty low as would be the assassination attempt on any president, though as history shows, certainly anything is possible.
If i were around when Kennedy was alive I would say the odds of him being assassinated were slim too.
