the riots might be left against right, poor against wealthy, then.

Just to be clear..anyone who calculates the odds of RFK's being shot as nil in the middle of '68 knows nothing.
Less than 5 years prior was Dealey Plaza. RFK was the US/AG into '64 (possibly apocrophyl: JEHoover used his own red-phone hotline direct to AG's desk to inform RFK "The President is dead." Then, turned to an assistant and demanded, "Now, get that damned phone off my desk.")
Almost exactly 40 years ago today MLK died.
June 6 ain't too far away. ("Now it's on to Chicago, and let's win there!")
The nation was ablaze in turmoil. Protests and riots and agent provacateurs.
As for this campaign, I've been praying for safe passage for everyone. Every day that comes off the calendar without incident is a good one.
I say the chances are 50/50. Just before Dallas, JFK visited San Antonio, and is reported to have said, "If they really want to kill you, there's nothing you can do."
(May be a paraphrase.)
So, that's the way I see it, too. Determination and an opportunity are all that's needed.

Now, I must dispute your overall characterization, there. Just on principle. I see no reason NOT to use FACTS in a chain to arrive at a 'preponderance of evidence' conclusion.
Which may or may not be relevant at any (present day) point in time.
And, I also think it odd that there's not even any mention of a 'plot' against 43.

If he is elected to the presidency, I hope it never happens, but he's probably a bigger target for an assassin than any president in my lifetime because of the color of his skin.

I'm seriously considering voting for him, believe it or not.
I don't really like McCain.
I would choose McCain over Hilary in a heartbeat.
If McCain has Lieberman on the ticket I might be more comfortable with him - but I don't really like McCain. I think he's a good man, but I don't like the manner in which he has done some things in the past.
Obama - I don't like a lot of his political positions, but I think he's an honest man, and he has charisma, and charisma is something I think is important as we do need to work on foreign relations, and charisma helps.
Of course, regardless of who I pick my electoral representative no doubt will go to whichever Dem is on the ticket - I'm in Cali - but strange as it may sound, I like Obama despite some of his positions.
I do like his desire to put money towards training for job advancement for the working class - maybe that really belongs at the state level and not Federal, but regardless of where it belongs, it needs to be done.
I really like the fact that he seems to be a cool head even amidst the ridiculous smears that have been brought against him (from the right and from Hilary).
I'm not saying I will vote for him, but he will make a decent President and I might.

To respond more constructively: no I don't think he will be assassinated. I think the secret service is excellent at what they do. this is most likely totally naive but for some reason I dont think there are are extreme racists out there capable of something like that...totally naive I know.
