So, are you going to be able to top my point average ? I'm consistently over 2500 points per day now.
I hope so. On Sept. 6th, before I got this weird bug, I did 5,600 points in one day.

I would like to but I'm really not on the Windows side to often. I feel like I'm using Windows enough during the day at school. Stanford should make a Mac GPU client.

There's mention of such in the Sticky above, but it's not imminent. You don't have a PS3, do you?

Can you do that on the PS3? I thought everyone was on team "PS3?"

This thread says the number can be designated during the initial config. http://www.maclife.com/forums/post/1542860#p1542860

The LHC (which might've been called

A setback put those plans on temporary hold. The 30-ton transformer that provides cooling to the collider broke last Thursday, just a day after it was turned on. The scientists with the European Organization for Nuclear Research reported the bad news.
Fortunately, researchers were able to race to replace the faulty transformer. They replaced it successfully this week and began to re-chill the 17 mile ring [..]
The malfunctioned raised temperatures from 2 K, the typical operating temperature, to 4.5 K. While 4.5 K is still extraordinarily cold for the Earth, it is too warm for the collider to operate.

Re: The MacMenace thread
I've stopped folding again. I have no idea why? My log says this:
Code:
[03:36:11] Entering M.D. [03:36:17] Will resume from checkpoint file [03:36:19] Node 0 initialized [03:36:21] Resuming from checkpoint [03:36:21] File work/wudata_08.log has changed since last checkpoint [03:36:26] CoreStatus = FF (255) [03:36:26] Client-core communications error: ERROR 0xff [03:36:26] This is a sign of more serious problems, shutting down.

Re: The MacMenace thread
I would just delete the entire Folding folder and reinstall.
I'm not sure, but it appears you encountered a particularly nasty protein or a rare bug in analyzing a certain protein. Different parts of Folding failed to talk to each other. OR --- you somehow damaged the logfile which caused the error. Did you run something like Cocktail, Onyx or Yasu ? (those never bothered my Folding, so I don't know)
The download thread http://www.maclife.com/forums/topic/104640
This looks like a fun thing to post over at the main support forum.

Re: The MacMenace thread
We need to know the exact install that you are using. What core is it ?
Post the last couple hundred lines of your FAHlog.txt if not sure. If you had dumped the Folding into the Trash, I would like to get that log file out of the trash for a while.

I haven't gone as far as to delete all of F@H so here is the log. Every entry from today seems to end with the same error message.

There's always that ATi/Winders GPU client...

Is it for ATI cards only? I'm thinking of getting the new MBP. So, I could have an 8800 GT and an 9600 M working for me.

Re: The MacMenace thread
The ATi client is, of course, but more recently NV has one too. Onanum is using it with several machines including one with a GTX 260. Numerous recent posts nearby.

Those clients sound pretty cool but I'm usually not logged into my Windows partition all day.

Re: The MacMenace thread
You could always leave it running on whatever you're not using..? They're hella fast.

Re: The MacMenace thread
I'm still convinced to erase the entire Folding install and start over. You can save the "client.cfg" file if you like as well as the FAHlog.txt file on backup but no need really.
A lost protein is no big deal at all in terms of installation or criticality to the Folding project. They will take care of the lost protein.

Re: The MacMenace thread
Ok, I deleted it and reinstalled. I'll see how things go. Running thw GPU client with Parallels or VMWare would be interesting but I don't have either, I'm just using bootcamp at the moment.

Re: The MacMenace thread
It turns out that, according to one person over at Folding HQ forums, that the GPU client would not work under Parallels because Parallels ships with generic drivers.
