Re: Damn it!!! Now I want a 360.

because the 360 is a superior system on MANY levels. Many if not most of wii owners are children or adults who have the wii as a 2nd system. If you read the whole thread you would know the the OP wants a 360 because of a Too Human preview.

No you can't. The Wii uses your internet connection, which I am assuming you pay for. If you're stealing your neighbours, then I suppose it is free, but surfing the web on the Wii is a terrible experience. Small resolution, and terrible keyboard input (something all the consoles share but at least you can hook up a usb keyboard to the 360/PS3), and a lack of tabs.

Re: Damn it!!! Now I want a 360.

I think he was getting at you dont have to pay for a XBL membership. But even with a XBL membership you still cant browse the interwebz. Only the PS3 and Wii have a built in web browser. Which i would give credit to the Wii for supporting Youtube which the PS3 does not.

Re: Damn it!!! Now I want a 360.

Anyone who's read my few gaming posts knows I abso-freaking-lutely love RPGs (especially regular or action RPGs but not so much MMOs). Too Human appears to fit that bill well enough that I'd even consider investing my very limited resources on any console for it. There have been a couple other games on that system that made the 360 a consideration but it was the game that tipped the scales past that for me.

A Wii was always in my plans (GameCube replacement of course) and if the PS3 ever becomes affordable, FFXIII assures it's eventual place as a PS2 replacement.

Either way I could care less about online play.

Minor correction, you can hook up a USB keyboard to the Wii. They updated that around half a year ago.

Re: Damn it!!! Now I want a 360.

Sometimes I wonder if I am the last journalist on the planet that still has some hope for Too Human. It’s been a long ride for Denis Dyack and Silicon Knights, and its all about to culminate this Tuesday when Too Human hits store shelves for the Xbox 360. Today, in an interview with Kikizo, Dyack mentioned something that doesn’t necessarily jive with all the previews for the game thus far. He said that Too Human has the propensity to last up to eighty hours if players are willing to put in some effort:

A good cure for that is to try playing a Too Human demo.

Re: Damn it!!! Now I want a 360.

I never said it wasn't nice but it is overrated. It contributes little to nothing to actual playability of a game (just makes it prettier). Prettier is a laudable goal but should not be a requirement.

In that vein, I guess sound, color and lack of grain contribute nothing to the actual watchability of movies. Let us know when you graduate to color talkies from grainy B&W newsreels and organ music. smile

Re: Damn it!!! Now I want a 360.

Enjoyability ≠ Playability
The two are linked but not the same thing.

Something can be playable but not enjoyable. Something can be enjoyable but not be exactly playable (though it's pretty damn difficult). Enjoyability enhances playability & playability enhances enjoyability but neither will create the other where it doesn't already exist.

BTW I've enjoyed quite a few of the silent black and whites. Sound and color are just gravy to me, sweet, sweet, really, really, really delicious gravy.

Re: Damn it!!! Now I want a 360.

I've a strong hunch you aren't really familiar with either what T&L is about, &/or how it breaks down (fixed-function, programmable and all the types and gradations thereof, what they can do etc), or the diff between the T & L aspects, nor yet the games that use them and to what degree, let 'lone a good base of experience gaming therewith and appreciating same in all their variegations. Most or all of these things are needful to speak with authority on the subject.

Playability? Red Faction (1) without hardware T&L assist would take a framerate hit, often severe, whenever terrain was altered by Geo-Mod; RF: Guerilla would be unplayable under a software-only renderer. And 1's figure models and much other artwork was authored to run without, resulting in much blockier models (heads, monsters) than its contemporary Halo 1 on the XBox. Thank God we're getting past those blocky heads at last.

Any given level of immersion is easier to achieve in a believable environment. Better graphics make those enviros possible, hence the potential for more good games. It's not just golly-gee eye candy.

Re: Damn it!!! Now I want a 360.

The problem is, when you create a game you have to decide what level of graphics you want and what hardware it will support. While graphics may not be the most important part of a game, it can certainly enhance the experience. Depending on the game, if the graphics are too simplistic, not 3D, or doesn't have proper lighting or shadows, it can seriously detract from the playability of the game. It all comes down to a tradeoff from the additional emersion and better flow of the game with better graphics compared to what hardware their customers have.
