Issue with Mini getting Self Assigned IP from recently purchased AEBS

I'm having a strange issue with the Airport Extreme Base Station I got got recently. It can connect to the internet fine but it appears not to be assigning a network IP adress to my Mini. The Airport Utility displays the Gateway IP as the Earthlink assigned 24.110.x.x IP address & the router IP address is the default 10.0.1.1. & the subnet as 255.255.255.0, I can manually assign the proper IP Address & Subnet Mask settings but using "Using DCHP" yields an IP address of 169.254.x.x, a Subnet Mask of 255.255.0.0, and a nonfunctional internet connection. The situation occurs using both Ethernet & AirPort. My Vonage router, which is connected to it, seems to operate fine so I know the router is working otherwise. Removing the Vonage router and reseting everything else on the network seems to not have help either, though I do plan to attempt it again once I finish some projects.

On the Mini do you have the Network preferences set correctly?
Select the Ethernet or Airport connection then Configure: Using DHCP
Apply

Airport Utility should show DHCP and NAT enabled.
Click on the Internet button then DHCP then NAT to view the settings.

It's also possible that MAC filtering is active on the base station.

In Airport Utility:
1. Hit  L
2. Go to the Access tab.
3. Make sure Not Enabled is selected from the popup menu.
4. If you can, click the Update button.

I have it set manually because as I said in the very first post that has yet to work.

Airport Utility should show DHCP and NAT enabled.
Click on the Internet button then DHCP then NAT to view the settings.

I've tried that a dozen time already but I guess a dozen more won't matter.

It started degrading and I ended up having to archive and install Leopard to even access the internet. Once I did that (not preserving network settings of course) the issue rectified itself.

Amazing the amount of crud that collects in hidden away areas that prevent us from connecting. Nothing like a new install.
