Awesome shots there Ribby.
I'd love to find a way to get a gig photographing in Afghanistan. DnD need any civvie photographers?
From what I can tell, either way, you're screwed. Bad people are punished by society's laws, and good people are punished by Murphy's Law.

The Lord Strathcona Horse tanks look like and should be Challengers, no? The Leopard II's a German tank, and quite blocky in the turret. The stern view below, firing, does rather look like one, tho, from that aspect.

Join up and become a Combat Photographer. It's its own trade in the CF.

It's an artillery piece being airlifted to a new location.

They are Leopard 1 chassis with modified turrets and other armouring. They have parts dating back to the 70s. Heavily modified over the decades.

IIRC the Leopard 1 was intro'ed in the early '60s, so late production chassis... not unlikely. I'll have to look into this unusual hybrid. I see what looks like improv wire mesh armor, perhaps to detonate shaped charges early.
Meanwhile, part of you lot are more local atm...

Re: Further Afghan adventures
Here's the story of the Leopard's deployment;
http://www.sfu.ca/casr/bg-leopard-afghan.htm
Note that the CF designation of the Tank is "Leopard C2", which is not a Leopard 2 but the older Leopard 1 chassis.
Slightly used Leo 2s are on the way as replacements;
http://www.sfu.ca/casr/doc-loi-leopard-tank.htm
It was thought by all sides at the outset that tanks were not required for the Afghan theatre. Wheeled armour was to be the way of the future; best laid plans...

Any pics of the big boom for the ordinance disposal?
That's a LOT of bombs to be just lying around out in the open.
Scary actually.

Re: Further Afghan adventures
Lots of ordinance laying around because a lot got dropped both during the Soviet incursion and during our incursion. It takes awhile to pick it all up. There are still a few spots in Europe that have unexploded ordinance. I believe French farmers are still getting blown up plowing through their fields.

They'd all have broken down shortly after offloading, if they even made it thru R&D.
Seriously, the Panthers and Tigers all exceeded their design weights by 10 tons or so, badly overburdening engine and suspension components. Parts were refined, replaced and the crews became adept in their (very frequently) scheduled maintenance, and they could be kept in service that way, but when the French put some Panthers into service after the war as part of their revived armored force, they broke down at frequent intervals, even without the need to surrender.
They could never have taken further extra weight as the upgraded Leopards have.

The CF does tend to use what others might consider museum pieces, but that's a tad extreme.
