Mexican Coke

My Raleys just got in some Hecho in Mexico Cocacola.
Glass bottles, outstanding taste - I mean really outstanding taste.

Why does it taste so good?

Apparently in Mexico they still use real sugar in Coke - not the corn syrup crap we use.
I hope this becomes a regular import. It's a damn good soda. Better than US Pepsi which is better than US Coke.

Re: Mexican Coke

Given the recent legislative push to get corn out the food chain and into our gasoline supply where it belongs it seems possible Coke will have to start using cane sugar again.

Yep, real sugar!

I brought back as much as my luggage allowed when I came back from Honduras.

However you can get the real stuff here in the Mexican isle at a grocery store!

My supermarket stocks passover coke and pepsi during the passover season. No corn syrup at all, and you can taste the difference.

In Europe they also use sugar instead of corn syrup.

When i was in Cancun, the Coca~Cola was called Coke. I didn't try it, but i did try the Diet Coke, and that didn't taste the same.

This place is great if you're in the LA area. It has every non-mainstream soda you can imagine.

BevMo also has a lot of non mainstream sodas. Far too many to choose from. Almost all sold as single bottles.

Hope so.  Corn syrup in everything is what's making us a nation of lard asses.

No - he's right.
I sit on my couch and watch a lot of television, and during the commercials, I read the labels of whatever snack food and soda I happen to have - and it almost all has corn syrup.

When I was younger and skinnier, I would do a lot of hiking with the boy scouts etc. - and there was no corn syrup in the trail mix we snacked on.

So it's the corn syrup that is making me fat.

Re: Mexican Coke

Heck, even the soda in Cuba is better, where they (obviously) use real sugar cane instead of corn syrup.  It's the same in the Dominican Republic.

Better fruit juice, too.

Re: Mexican Coke

Yup. Mexican Coke > US Coke

I definitely always ask for Mexican Coke at Mexican restaurants. It pleases me to know that US Coke's inferiority is so well known, that just about any credible Mexican restaurant or Taqueria knows to stock the good stuff.

Re: Mexican Coke

I suppose I could ask for a shot of Mex Coke sometime to see how it tastes. My body would likely suck up that sugar with great satisfaction.

Maybe that's not such a good idea...

I probably had some when I was a kid anyway.

Re: Mexican Coke

Dr. Pepper makes limited runs of real Dr. Pepper (with sugar, not corn syrup) and of course it tastes better. You get the real prune juice taste with it.

I thought maybe you had to drink Passover Coke if you were circumcised.

But seriously, I know about unleavened bread and stuff but I didn't know about high fructose corn syrup being a no-no at Passover. I don't know anyone who celebrates Passover so I'm a bit out of touch with the rules...

And, to be honest, I didn't even know that corn syrup and cane syrup tasted any different. I just bought a bottle of cane syrup a couple of months ago (freaking expensive!) for a particular recipe that called for it. I had a hard time even finding it here.
