Re: Mexican Coke
Not needed as most mexicans in the rural area don't have a problem with obesity, as is the case with many residents of the cities.

I thought maybe you had to drink Passover Coke if you were circumcised.
But seriously, I know about unleavened bread and stuff but I didn't know about high fructose corn syrup being a no-no at Passover. I don't know anyone who celebrates Passover so I'm a bit out of touch with the rules...
And, to be honest, I didn't even know that corn syrup and cane syrup tasted any different. I just bought a bottle of cane syrup a couple of months ago (freaking expensive!) for a particular recipe that called for it. I had a hard time even finding it here.
Corn is not kosher for passover.

Re: Mexican Coke
Mexican coke is fine, just remember that they have to haul it across the borders inside a condom and jammed up somebody's rear.

It probably depends upon which sect of Judaism you prescribe to. Some even want separate kitchens for meat and dairy products.
I'm curious as to the corn syrup levean connection - this is what a Rabbi says:
The general rule was to prohibit corn syrup when it was uncertain whether the preparation of the corn syrup was done with the appropriate supervision. Secondly, rabbis could prohibit corn syrup, which is a sweetener, as there are other kosher for Passover sweeteners, including potato syrup and sugar.
However, under the right circumstances, corn syrup can be kosher for Passover.

I'm guessing corn syrup can be produced in a manner that breaks the rules.

Corn syrup is generally processed inside a pig's abdomen, and stirred with various crustaceans.

Did some more research - it seems some Jewish sects consider corn itself to be too close to a particular grain while other Jewish sects do not.
These additional rules certainly seem extra-biblical to me, and not part of the instructions for passover found in the Pentateuch (I guess like separate kitchens for meat and milk - never ever mentioned in the Bible).

The Ashkenazi do not allow rice, corn or certain other grains for passover, while the Sephardic jews do allow such grain.

According to CocaCola - I was imagining it, there is no discernible taste difference.
Maybe a double blind taste test is in order.

It's the glass of the bottles that makes the difference. That's one of my perks for living on the border.

I don't think so - unless you are suggesting plastic alters the flavor, because this stuff tastes better than US coke from a genuine glass.
I know glass bottles are better than plastic for the simple reason that glass is a better thermal barrier (so the soda stays cold longer) but it's more than just that.
I think at Christmas they sometimes do US coke in glass bottles. It would be interesting to buy a bunch, buy a bunch of mexican coke, cool to same temp, and do a taste test in glasses.
If there is no difference than the only explanation I can think of is that plastic bottles flavor the coke.

Then the coke in the plastic bottles and from the soda fountain in europe would taste the same as american coke. It does not.

Re: Mexican Coke
I dunno. I buy the American stuff in those funky little bottles and I like it. I buy the Mexican coke in the bottles and I like it. Coke in cans really sucks. Coke in plastic is so so. I drink my beer in bottles too.

Given the number of supply channels filtering through Mexico en route to the United States, it can be hard to know for sure what you're getting. That said, Columbian is still the best, and it's worth paying extra if you can find a good supplier that's no drama/no bulls***.
