Boomerangs

Have any of you ever had one as a kid or still occasionally like to throw one around now?

I really want to buy one and just throw it around when I am bored and want to spend some time outside during the day. I remember them being pretty fun as a kid, but I never had a chance to buy a nice wood one or at least a nice large one that would impress the ladies. ha!

But seriously, boomerangs are pretty cool, I want one now. Nothing like the feral kid from MadMax though, that's too dangerous for me.

Re: Boomerangs

I had a cheap plastic one, I never figured out how to throw it properly so it would come back.

Re: Boomerangs

I tried a friend's boomerang several times when I was a kid.  Never could get it to come back to me.

Re: Boomerangs

I had a nice wooden boomerang as a kid it was my first and only.  I threw it for weeks then one day it decided to come back.  I didn't think quick enough and let it pass me by it took a nick out of the tree with it's sharp edges.  So I had figured out how to get it to come back, couldn't figure out how to catch it.

Boomerangs are great fun  Unless you are use to how they work maybe start with a plastic one then get the wooden ones.

Re: Boomerangs

I figure you'd try to catch it like a frisbee with 2 hands, against your body perhaps like a dodgeball as well. There were also a couple of videos on the net where people would attach glow sticks and sparklers to them and it would be a pretty light show. But wouldn't that totally mess up the Bernoulli effect of how the wing is shaped? Crazy!

I looked up some traditional aborigine hunting boomerangs that have a straight path, but I wouldn't even know what to throw at to practice. Stuffed animals? Pillows? Watermelons?

Re: Boomerangs

I've had lots and lots of boomerangs over the years... the nicest I have ever owned came from Colorado Boomerangs.
