It's official: Hillary Clinton is delusional

Just watching her victory speech in West Virginia. She's still sounding defiant, still asking for donations, still saying faith can move mountains, still saying it's all about giving people a voice, still saying she's the strongest candidate. She's playing with numbers. Hell she's once more insisting on the Florida and Michigan votes being counted.

I know the experts have been saying she'll call it quits in early June once all the primaries are over, but even if that's true (and judging by her words tonight I'm not convinced it is), I think she's on the verge of rendering herself completely irrelevant, turning herself into a national embarrassment.

The once plugged-in Clinton political sense has turned into a pathetic tin ear.

Infuriating, but also sad.

Re: It's official: Hillary Clinton is delusional

As I mentioned, the West Virginia cracker vote has gained her in pledged delegates what she lost in superdelegates just this week.

Yet it hasn't changed the fact that not enough delegates are up for grabs for her to win.

I think that was geesie's point.

It wasn't, but it's a good point.
Or maybe I made the point in another thread. Sounds like something I'd say.

In any case, if Hillary got every pledged delegate left, she'd edge ahead of Obama slightly and probably the superdelegates would swing to her.

But that won't happen.

She does seem to be living in her own little world. I've got to wonder what Bill thinks of this whole mess.

Re: It's official: Hillary Clinton is delusional

Actually I don't think the supers would give her what she needed even in the mathematically impossible event that she wins every last pledged delegate. A few more victories wouldn't do it; the required ingredient remains an apocalyptic implosion of the Obama campaign.

Oh and let's not forget Hillary getting the delegates from Florida and Michigan.

Personally I think the DNC should have adjusted the threshhold for victory once Florida and Michigan were out of the equation, to account for the lesser number of delegates.

They did. That's why the delegate count required to win is 2025. Before, it was over 2200.

Frankly, Michigan should be a no-go, since Clinton was the only one on the ballot. (though she didn't get the entire vote, interestingly enough; losing support to "undecided")

Florida I could see, maybe. Since everyone thought it was out of play, it's a bit iffy, but at least both candidates were on the ballot.

Either way, it's not enough to tip the balance.

Why Clinton's Continued Campaigning Is Good for the Dems

He makes some good points, but I'm not sure agree with the article.

Maybe Clinton should run as an independent. Would she win the general election? I think a lot of Republicans would vote for her rather than McCain.

Independent or not, I remain convinced she's not electable in the November campaign.

I do wonder if she isn't trying to sink Obama so she can take another shot in 4 years.

Obama's best strategy is his current one.  Ignore her, and start actually campaigning for the White House.

And as long as she stops attacking Obama, she still has the chance for the VP slot.  She may not have enough pledged delegates or super delegates to win, but she might have enough to deny Obama the nomination if he doesn't play ball.

If she did that, she'd have to do it in a way that she wouldn't get blamed.

As it stands, if Obama lost to McCain, she'd probably a lot of the blame.

If it went to the level of outright sabotage she'd have no political future in the Democratic party.

Re: It's official: Hillary Clinton is delusional

I think Clinton is simply attempting to end her campaign on a high note, perhaps to convince the party that she's needed as VP on the ticket.

For all the talk of some sort of fall from grace, it certainly doesn't seem to have made a whole lot of difference thus far (either in the remaining contests or in national polls).

...And Obama's picked up more superdelegates

His campaign announced his pickup Wednesday of two superdelegates: Rep. Peter Visclosky of Indiana and Democrats Abroad chair Christine Schon Marques.

Also endorsing Obama were three former Securities and Exchange Commission chairmen—William Donaldson, David Ruder, and Arthur Levitt Jr., who was appointed by former President Clinton. The campaign released a joint statement by the former SEC chiefs, well as former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, that praised Obama's "positive leadership and judgment" on economic issues.

"We are aware of the reasoned approach Mr. Obama has taken in analyzing the current financial crisis and the need for balanced regulatory reform," the statement said. "We believe that such a constructive approach can be extended broadly in the economic area as well as elsewhere."

Nope. Obama will be the nominee on the first ballot.

Sometimes the running mate is not a great choice. I think it's going to be Clinton just as an issue of appeasement, not for any very good reason.

Now that I think about it, just look at Quayle. Or Lieberman.

Or HW.

Simply cannot believe that Raygun chose him for a running mate after he called the RR economic plan "voodoo economics". Picking a competitor as your running mate is dicey business, although in Obama's case it could bring him more support from the crackers.

Re: It's official: Hillary Clinton is delusional

Hillary as his running mate would ensure he'd lose. Every question asked of either one would be an attack on Obama's dignity by asking questions in the context of Hillary's attacks. . . So, Barak, do you think Hillary was wrong about your lack of experience. . . . So,  Hillary, do you still think working class whites won't vote for him?. . . .

Clean slate all the way. I think he gets it. . . at least I hope like hell he does. . .
