Ghostbusters video game for october 08?

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/joyst … 0-ps3-wii/

I just read an article about the new ghostbusters game coming out in october... I never thought there would be a new game for GB... Even if the game is mediocre it's a great stride for us ghost buster fans. We haven't had any new content sice the "Real Ghostbuster" cartoon series. The game takes place shortly after the story in GB2 leaves off... It's 1991 and you are the new and 5th GB in the group.

I've played through both the Apple // and NES versions.  Coincidentally, I just happened to snag the SMS version on eBay.  As for the new version, this is one game I really hope doesn't suck.  Heck, if it's good enough, maybe they'll actually make a new movie... and bring back Ecto Cooler-flavored Hi-C.

Yeah, I mentioned it about 6 months ago.

I keep forgetting to mention Ghostbusters, too. Looks promising.

Original voice acting last I heard... it'd be a stretch to look for anything like the original cast 25 years later in a movie, tho.

II didn't work very well; some magic only works once. Who knows.

Ghostbusters?  Hmmm...how about a Time Bandits video game.  Or maybe Clash of the Titans?

Well, they don't have to coincide it with the movie release (being 25 or so years late), so maybe they'll have enough time to make a decent game. tongue

Actually, I think they could make a great game out of those Harryhausen movies.  Especially 7th Voyage of Sinbad.   I just find it strange that these frachises still retain their modernity despite being 25 years old.  When I was a kid, a movie from the 50's was like a treasure from a forgotten age.

Movies have changed less over the past 25 years compared to 50-25 years ago.  Also, the marketing tie-ins and cartoon spin-offs helped keep it fresh.

Still, some of the real oldies have retained their modernity over the years.  Batman was originally conceived in 1939, televised in the 60's, and saw its first movie incarnation in 1966.

I would be almost excited if the was a back to the future game coming out too... shrug maybe it has to do with retro being cool.

Monsters from the Id! eek

Forbidden Planet does hold up well, even its effects, esp. considering it was partly a drive-in, 'date' movie (Anne Francis/Alta. Metacell, of course, was less than a total success on the Krell brain-boosting test. wink) And it's got Robbie the Robot.

The Day the Earth Stood Still probably holds up the best, I think. Klaatu borada nikto ftw, Gort. And a Bernard Hermann score never hurt.

Still, Ghostbusters has the sort of open-ended structure to support game scenarios better than those, I think. Often when you tell a story really well, it's self-contained, ends where it should. GB has room for more scenarios without breaking the consistency of feel.

I think you're right.  In fact, I think history ended in 1979 and we are basically morphing into a static Logan's run society.  The only things which have really changed are computers and the internet.

Ooh, Logan's Run would make a great game....aren't they working on a remake?

They've been working on a remake for some time; hasn't quite left the ground yet.

Re: Ghostbusters video game for october 08?

I've actually never seen Forbidden Planet.  I know, WTF is wrong with me?  Well I have to save something for my future boredom.    Kind of like I waited 25 years to watch The Warriors even though I knew it would be one of my favorite movies.  I have seen The Day the Earth Stood Still many times though.

Anyway, I agree, Ghostbusters actually has lots of room for great open ended gameplay.

Vivendi UK Closing, Ghostbusters Still in Limbo
MCV announces that most of the staff from Vivendi has hade its transition to their new Activision Blizzard offices, as activities at Vivendi UK are brought to an end. They report that the impact of redundancies has not been as great as many had anticipated, quoting Activision Blizzard’s UK managing director Andrew Brown saying: "We offered people a lot more jobs than were taken in the end. And we’ve tried to make sure everybody who did come across felt that it was a positive move." They also report that the fates of Ghostbusters and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand are still up in the air, as Activision Blizzard has not decided what to do with these two Vivendi projects.

I guess this is a good thread to bring up:
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
starring: Keanu Reeves as Klaatu blech

Re: Ghostbusters video game for october 08?

Is there going to be a video game to go along with it?  Will it be as good as E.T.?

Ghostbusters to Atari Confirmed [November 07, 2008, 09:42 am ET] - Share

Atari to Publish and Distribute 'Ghostbusters: The Video Game' is the press release officially confirming indications that Atari is picking up the Ghostbusters game, saying it will be released for six systems next year. "Atari will release the Ghostbusters: The Video Game for the PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system, PlayStation(R)2 system, the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Games For Windows(R), Wii(TM) and Nintendo DS(TM). The launch will also leverage Atari's worldwide distribution network to maximize the presence of Ghostbusters: The Video Game around the globe as Sony marks the film's upcoming 25th anniversary."

And Blu-Ray release? wink

At least, with a Sony movie released on PS3, Atari isn't liable to dumb down the graphics to level the gaming field... tho one or two systems might receive 'special treatment.' hmm

Not aside from the anniversary in June '09. No dev work has been done on it AFAIK for some time, being without a publisher.
