Hillary about to call it quits?
Hillary plans speech on Tuesday evening in New York
Staffers who have worked for her on he ground in Puerto Rico, South Dakota and Montana have been invited to attend the event or go home for further instructions, campaign aides said. The New York senator had no other events Tuesday. She planned to address AIPAC Wednesday in Washington.
But she is under increasing pressure to cede the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama after the final primaries. There was a sense of denouement in the campaign. She planned to rally with husband and former President Clinton and their daughter Chelsea in South Dakota Monday night—a reunion usually reserved for election nights.
And ... campaign staffers have been told to submit their expense receipts by the end of this week
That's a sign, to them, that the campaign wants to get its affairs in order soon. If Clinton were staying in the race, there'd be no real reason to collect these receipts now; she'd still be raising and spending money from the same primary campaign account.
So? Just a pair of meaningless tidbits, or is something afoot?

I myself won't believe it until I hear it from Hillary herself

In any kind of realistic universe, the decision on Florida and Michigan was the final nail in the coffin. Once the primaries are done there's just no hope. Not that there's been much for a long time.

She could still win with superdelegates. She claims to have the popular vote, but her method of counting leaves out a lot of people.

Re: Hillary about to call it quits?
She can only win if a bunch of supedelegates switch sides.
Meanwhile, Billy-boy is dropping big hints too
"I want to say also that this may be the last day I'm ever involved in a campaign of this kind," the former president told Clinton supporters in South Dakota, ABC and NBC reported on their news websites.
"I thought I was out of politics, till Hillary decided to run. But it has been one of the greatest honors of my life to go around and campaign for her for president," he added at the start of his stump speech.

It's definitely over.

Ask it that way, and one could imagine it going on forever.

Oh this one's interesting: Both Hillary and Obama will be in NYC on Tuesday ...
Joint announcement, anyone?

It will end soon. There's no way she's taking this to the convention.

These people will all be out of work on Tuesday, because the democratic nomination race is over. However, in the words of her role model Joe Lieberman, this was only the first half of the campaign. All democratic primary campaign workers will be working for America for Hillary starting on Wednesday.

Re: Hillary about to call it quits?
Last winter the "who is most electable?" question was pretty open to debate but not now.
No modern era democrat has EVER won the presidency without overwhelmingly (80-90%) carrying the black vote. I doubt Hillary could get 50% and more likely much less after her race baiting.
Obama on the other hand will landslide with Blacks and in the year the black turnout will set a new record.
Lots and lots of pissed off black people out there.

No, I'm pretty sure that's still debatable.
Clinton is killing McCain on a state-by-state basis in the polls. Held today, she would easily take both Ohio and Florida.
Obama's numbers have definitely improved, however. Hopefully they will continue to as he shifts gears into the general election.

I think it will.
McCain really faces a smurfer of a challenge: How does he stave off the charges of just being a third Bush term while not offending the 50% of republicans who like Bush.
Also I think Obama's secret weapon is that he could motivate millions of young voters, who ordinarily dont vote, into voting for him. Add to that the certainty that with Obama running we will see the largest black turnout ever.
Obama brings many new voters with him.

I remain convinced that Hillary is not electable. I don't care what the present polls say. Between her and Bill, their negatives, and potential negatives, are damn serious. There's enough dirt floating around that hasn't been aired yet, especially about Bill's post-White House antics and financial dealings, that would smurfing cripple her.
We all know these polls are meaningless this far ahead of the general election.

I agree with you in general, but won't that 50% of the republican base that likes Bush vote for McCain anyway? (Mostly)

The danger for McCain is that disillusioned Bushies might just stay home.

Re: Hillary about to call it quits?
BREAKING NEWS: [b]Hillary to admit Obama has enough delegates to win!
Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe said Tuesday that once Obama gets the majority of convention delegates, "I think Hillary Clinton will congratulate him and call him the nominee."
"I don't think she's going to go to the credentials committee," he said on NBC's "Today" show.
Wow! Major concession -- a Clinton accepts the existence of objective reality!
Obama told The Associated Press on Monday that "we've got a lot of work to do in terms of bringing the party together" with the convention approaching.
Ya think?
