She may be open to it but I can't see him being that stupid and actually offering it.

Why would that be stupid? It would be the best way to insure that her supporters (of which there are a lot) would be on board for November.

Right now he's beating McCain.
He doesn't want to mobilize the Reps, he wants them demoralized and unmotivated to vote. He also needs to keep the independents that hate her.

I really don't believe that the GOP would be excited to have both of the two candidates who have brought record numbers of voters to the polls on the same ticket.
Don't get me wrong....I believe either Obama or Clinton would beat McCain. A joint ticket might avoid a rift, however.

Re: Hillary about to call it quits?
Why would he want Hillary as a veep? A running mate is supposed to bring votes to the table, not cost them.
If Hillary's supporters are dumb and sheeplike enough to vote for Obama for the sole reason that she's on the ticket, then I say smurf 'em; they're not much of an asset.
How many Hillary supporters will vote for McCain rather than the Democratic nominee? Especially one who has the potential to whip up a lot of enthusiasm?
Obama's campaign so far has been incredibly classy; right up to the end he stayed out of the gutter, avoided gender-baiting. I think he'll be able to unify the party. Assuming the Klintons can shut their goddamned yaps, that is.

If I were Obama I wouldnt want her as Veep but I would definitely want her in cabinet. Every Prez needs a Bull dog to sick on his enemies and Hillary would be great for that..

How would she not "bring votes to the table?"
If Hillary's supporters are dumb and sheeplike enough to vote for Obama for the sole reason that she's on the ticket, then I say smurf 'em; they're not much of an asset.

It would be "dumb" to vote for the ticket upon which the candidate you support holds the VP slot?
How many Hillary supporters will vote for McCain rather than the Democratic nominee? Especially one who has the potential to whip up a lot of enthusiasm?
Some polling has suggested a lot. That's not to say that they actually would come November, but you would have to be nuts to believe that Obama doesn't need or want Clinton's support in the general.

Among close friends and relatives, there are two who would be very happy to have Hillary in the VP slot.
That said, I would be decidedly less than pleased.

I have to agree. to me she represents everything I do not like in politics. Her only real concern is getting elected. It doesn't matter if you have to trample your own party, argue to change the rules, whatever the cost just win. I do see the potential of appealing to her supporters but if she were to finally hold true to her promise of doing whatever she can to get the democratic nominee elected than why bother to put her and all her baggage on the ticket

This is why.
A majority of democratic voters would be happy with her selection. When the question is open-ended, she still comes in much higher than anyone else.

So, Obama has won the nomination. Hopefully we dont see a combined ticket. I think that would be a really, really bad idea for the democrats.

Bingo. Like I said -- she doesn't add to his tally, at least not much.
He's gonna have to get someone who's strong on defense, I figure.
As for Hillary, she totally screwed the pooch on this one. As long as Obama stays classy, her supporters will chill out (at least most of them will). At this point, I don't see why anyone in Obama's position would tell her anything but "smurf you."

Not much of an assett? She won nearly half the delegates and more of the popular vote (depending on how you count the votes of course) than Brack. And in the past few contests has, for the most part been blowing him out of the water. I assure you, pissing off hillary's voters is not going to engender love for Barack.

She's popular among a good chunk of Democratic voters. Among them women and racist rural whites. Great stuff. How popular is she among non-Democrats? Specifically moderates and independents?

Re: Hillary about to call it quits?
All the networks (CNN, FOX, MSNBC) are saying that enough superdelegates have gone to Obama this evening to make it a moot point.
I also cannot believe she didn't quit and is still flogging the "I really got the popular vote" angle.

CNN headline: Obama clinches; no Clinton concession
I had to turn off the TV because I need some sleep , but it appears that Obama was appropriately gracious in victory and also quickly turned to McCain bashing.
The best thing for Obama to do is keep campaigning in lite mode and enjoy the week. Let Hillary fade for a few weeks.
