Have you seen how many different variations of the Sims there are? I think EA might be the sensei in this case.

If the game is as cool as the Demo, I don't care.

Very carefully...

I didn't figure out till last night that I can make the body bigger/smaller if I highlight a vertebrae and use the scroll wheel.  Maybe I should have read the readme.

More Halo-related Spore Critters
We mentioned the Spore creation of KraZi Chief yesterday - a thread on our forum has exploded with new content from other creators. Browse through (starting here) for a Halo Wars concept critter, some grunts, some elites, and a jackal! In many cases, the creature file is included, if you want to play with it yourself. Nice work from TheSneak and thebadgerwithin! Update: Looks like Hawty McBloggy's getting in on the action, too. (Louis Wu 12:12:41 UTC)

Re: Spore Creature Creator 6/17

It's a hit.

Delaying the launch of Spore until 2008 apparently hasn't diminished anyone's appreciation for the game's Creature Creator editor. Although it was just released online for $10 earlier this week, EA is already reporting that more than 360,000 creatures have been uploaded to the official game website for sharing with other users.

“The response to the Spore Creature Creator has been overwhelming,” said Lucy Bradshaw, executive producer of Spore at Maxis. “The creativity and passion that the community is putting into their creatures is spectacular. The development team has spent the last 24 hours checking out the amazing creations racing in from all corners of the globe – with peak volume hitting more than 1,000 creatures being shared a minute.”

So how many $10 downloads, Lucy?

Re: Spore Creature Creator 6/17

just wondering if anyone's had any problems running this game?  I've got an Oct. 07 15" MBP with 10.5.3 and yet every time I click on to run the game I get a "Not found:GL:5538" error and refuses to open up.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.  Googling and searching the Spore website forum hasn't revealed anything either.

Re: Spore Creature Creator 6/17

I get the same error on a Mac Pro. I'm seeing a few more results in Google so maybe other people are finding it too. I logged a support request with EA.
I see this error in the Console too:

SCC runs fine for me.  Made a cute little creature with three heads and two sets of feet.  It's got a new version of Cider, which excites me for other reasons.

EA's 'Spore' a week from being finished    July 29, 2008 1:04 PM PDT

After more than three years of anticipation, Spore is almost finished.

Electronic Arts' evolution game, from legendary designer Will Wright's Maxis studio, is about a week from going "gold," I was told Tuesday by Thomas Vu, a producer on the game who gave me a demo Tuesday morning. Going gold, of course, means the game is about to be sent to manufacturing. EA has said that Spore will launch September 7.

So, most anytime. Go forth and multiply, 'bout 4 weeks from now.

Re: Spore Creature Creator 6/17

Spore actually runs well on the Mac. Cider doesn't mean that much of a performance hit. It's not too demanding a game wrt to graphics power, but is rather CPU intensive. Lots of RAM helps too.

Maxis: Spore Doesn't Need Demo, Does Need DRM [August 15, 2008, 9:54 pm ET]
Eurogamer has word from Maxis that there will be no demo for Spore, the now-gold life simulation, quoting executive producer Lucy Bradshaw, who also told them "yes, we'll add to the experience," when asked about expansions, but also mentioned plans to eventually distribute the flora editor that was axed from the game. She also addresses the game's controversial DRM scheme, saying

"We do have copy protection, it is a necessary part of our biz, but we've worked to make it something that does not punish the legit owners," Bradshaw said.

"You need to authenticate once at the first install. This happens online. You can install on three separate computers and you do need to register for the online features."
