Linksys wierdness
Hi from Japan. I've got a Linksys WRT54G (bought in america, is this important?) that I'm trying to connect a Powermac G4/733 to, as well as establish a wireless network with. I can connect direct to the router via ethernet, connected with PPPoE. I can also connect with the laptop by the same method. Here's where it gets twisty however. I can enter the setup page of the router with the laptop, but not with the tower. Also, the router transmits the signal just fine, but even with the modem from the internet company plugged into the dang thing it won't connect. Any suggestions? Would it help to find a router made here in Japan?

Re: Linksys wierdness
1. Are you connecting to your ISP through PPPoE? If so are you using your router to establish the PPPoE connection or the modem provided by the ISP?
2. Are you setting the router to be DHCP or do you manually set your internal addresses?
3. Can you ping the router from the tower?

1. Yeah, PPPoE. It's going through the router to the tower, should I try direct from the modem to the tower?
2. DHCP
3. Nope.

Also, I can ping the router with the laptop, no problem.

Re: Linksys wierdness
Ok, update time. I got the wireless to work, but even with the tower plugged into the #1 port on the router, I can only connect either the tower or the laptop through PPPoE, but not both at the same time. WTF, seriously?

Re: Linksys wierdness
Here's the catch. If the ISP is connected through PPPoE through the modem then it should do the work. If the modem is only the connection and doesn't do anything for PPPoE then set the PPPoE to occur at the router. There are settings for PPPoE on Linksys Routers. That's how I connect to Verizon FIOS. With the Router making the PPPoE connection and providing the server connection for both tower and laptop, you should be able to connect through both.
Question are you using Automatic in your network setting on both tower and laptop? Or are you manually inputing the settings. if manually ensure you use the router address and submask.
In the Basic Setup page of the router, ensure that you have set your users to around 10 at least.
The STatus page of the router will tell you how you are connecting. Ensure you are connected correctly.
Also check to see if your local network and the DHCP clients table to see if all are connecting.
