Bootcamp screw up my macbook pro?

So I got a macbook pro about 3 weeks ago and i just recently bought Lepord so i could run bootcamp. Upon installing bootcamp/ windows xp my computer crashed and I couldn't install it. Eversince then my volume up key (f12) has been binded so that it will make the widgets pop up and my volume down key (f11) has been the button to make all the windows dissappear. A lot of other things are really screwed up and I have no clue what to do. I ran bootcamp again and partioned everything over to the mac osx again and its still screwed up. Any advice would be greatly helpful.

What are you talking about? That is the default setting for the function keys on any Mac sold nowadays.

Re: Bootcamp screw up my macbook pro?

Theres actually a whole lot more screwed up than I originally thought. I have NO sound, my f1-f10 keys don't do anything. I can't watch a video for more than 10 seconds without it stopping (and it doesn't even have sound) Is there any way i can restore my mac to its original settings, like wipe my harddrive and start off fresh? Oh and by the way F11 and F12 are NOT the widgets and space out key those are F3 and F4.

This is what my keyboard looks like http://c.matallin.com/wp-content/upload … 080226.jpg

Re: Bootcamp screw up my macbook pro?

No, he's right - F12 is the dashboard button if you tap it, and eject if you hold it (depending on the keyboard).

And the Expose key is F11.

At least by default (as in, standard install, standard Mac, generic keyboard.)

Chances are you just have the wrong keyboard layout selected, perhaps because you used a generic Leopard install CD instead of the original disks specific to your machine.

You can use the discs that came with your computer to reformat your drive and install the original software back on it.

If you had a 3-week old machine, why didn't it come with leopard/boot camp already?

And besides, none of the problems you're describing have a thing to do with Boot Camp. They do, however, sound like symptoms of a botched Leopard installation.

Re: Bootcamp screw up my macbook pro?

Well I'm not really great with mac's and I needed one for school so I had no idea that this computer came with Bootcamp and such. I bought leopard just so I could run windows xp. Now I have lost all interest in it and just want my computer back to the way it was. I can't even adjust the audio at all and its really frustrating. Also any video I try to watch freezes like 4 seconds after it starts playing. I just sent an email to my dad and told him to sent me all the cd's that came with my laptop. After I reinstall the cd's should this fix the problem, because I installed Leopard twice and it still does the same things. Thanks.

Use the restore CD that came with the computer, then.

Should take less than an hour to get back to the welcome screen.
