Soy Milk

My little brothers came up for the fourth. One of them likes soy milk - so I got a half gallon of vanilla soy milk (his favorite). He didn't drink a lot of it though, only about half of it.

So - now I have this soy milk in my fridge.

I tried some - it isn't awful, but it is rather bland. I need some ideas to spice up the flavor some, waste not want not.

Does it do well with chocolate syrup? Any spices that maybe work? Any ideas at all?

Re: Soy Milk

I use it in cereal in the morning, but I haven't had the nerve to chug a glass of it yet. My wife uses this banana flavoring for the kids, or Ovaltine sometimes. They seem to like it that way.

Re: Soy Milk

Works fine with Chocolate, o yes.  Syrup anyway, don't know about powder, can't imagine why it wouldn't though.

Do NOT use it as coffee creamer.

Re: Soy Milk

It does come in chocolate, but if you bought vanilla I would not try to flavor it further.

Re: Soy Milk

I've found no variation of soy juice that I enjoy personally. (Yet I enjoy miso, tofu, & edamame.)

Re: Soy Milk

I like soy milk. Yes, it is a little bit bland compared to moo milk, but not bad at all. I like chocolate soy milk. drool

Metacell is right about trying to use it as coffee creamer. It's too wimpy for that.

Re: Soy Milk

It tends to break up in coffee. I started using soy milk long before I was a vegetarian because it will keep a long time in the fridge. I got tired of throwing out cow milk. I mostly use it on cereal. Sometimes I'll drink a glass but not often.

If you accept that it's not cow milk, you can adjust to the flavor.

But if you want to, throw it in the blender with some chocolate syrup. You could also try a dash of nutmeg or cinnamon instead. The vanilla is probably pretty mild and will go with other flavors.

Another idea is to blend with a banana, frozen or fresh.

I imagine chocolate soy milk would be similar to Yoo-Hoo?

Makes good creamer for coffee, or good for making smoothies.

Re: Soy Milk

I always grab a few of the soy-nog stuff around the winter holidays, that stuff is great.  But I also think I might be slightly allergic to soy milk. I eat soy all the time without any effect, but when I drink soy milk, my mouth feels itchy and stuff, like not super itchy, but kinda irritated.

Re: Soy Milk

I love soy milk.  But the original kind, not the vanilla.  I find that the vanilla is way too sweet.

Best use is for cereal.

Worst use EVER is for coffee.  It's a really good way to ruin a cup.

And chocolate syrup is excellent in soy milk.  But, if you're feeling froggy after this half gallon is up, you should go try the already mixed chocolate soy milk.  It's addictive it's so good. AND it's something you can just chug.  MMMm.

Re: Soy Milk

I drink my coffee black, the way it is intended. But I bought the vanilla soy milk because that's what he likes best.

A friend of his is lactose intolerant so that's where he tried it, and for whatever reasons - he really likes it. Not a bad thing - soy milk is very healthy.

You don't need to. Silk makes a soy coffee creamer, and it work really well.

Speak of coffee, has anyone tried the Silk SoyLatte flavor?

Re: Soy Milk

Another vote for smoothies or milk shakes.  You don't even notice the flavour when it's blended with fruit and/or ice cream.

Well, if you blend it with dairy, duh!

Might as well suggest he pour milk in it.

The ice cream is there to make it colder, thicker, and to add flavour. smile

The soy milk is there to thin out the ice cream. smile

Re: Soy Milk

Call me crazy, but I find soy beverage has this sort of granular texture while drinking it, it's minute, but it's there and it puts me off.
