Re: Apple finally sues Psystar
It would be very interesting to see how many iMacs Apple would sell if people had another desktop choice. My guess is lots less.
As Mr. T said, I hope we find out.
Ironically, it's the iMac that originally kicked off this new "Jobs" era of prosperity for Apple.

Yeah, and it was selling for $800 for awhile.
then they put the lcd in it and raised he price ... edu complained ALOT so the released the emac... then they canned the emac in favor of a previous generation imac for edu at the same price point.
I still find it ridiculous that the 17in model is gone for the general public ... which leaves the edu 17" imac 2 generations behind the "normal" line up

Not really.
The release of the original iMac cause about a one year blip in increased sales and then sales returned to almost the level it was pre-iMac. Sales remained pretty flat until the Intel switch.
The mythology about the iMac "saving" Apple has a strong mojo with Mac users but it really did very little to increase sales long term. Note that the highest point in the iMac blip is actually lower than Mac sales in 95 and 96, supposedly the darkest of dark days for Apple..

Re: Apple finally sues Psystar
I would have figured they would be selling more than 8 computers a year by now

Re: Apple finally sues Psystar
Windows 95 killed Apple. I think the iMac helped keep the company solvent through the OS X transition. It used to be a cheap computer though, especially for the time.
@Pariah, the Intel switch is barely represented in the graph -- it started in mid-2006 (for me, it started in 2005
), where the sales were already close to 7 million. I think the upswing coincides better with iPod sales, i.e. the halo effect.
