Uuuuhhhh.... I don't see how that even helps promote Vista as a good OS, let alone Vista at all.
I did laugh at the photo on the ID though. But WTF? It was just Seinfeld's Superman commercials with Bill Gates instead.
Whatever. Turn off the alarms. This campaign isn't a threat.
I am very curious as to see the next ones though. It just has me strangely curious.
Edit: I think they just took an American Express Jerry Seinfeld/Superman commercial template and replaced Superman with Bill Gates and Amex with a club card.
It's a freaking credit card commercial redressed!

I don't see a reason for them to even reply yet. There was only one second of Windows advertising in the whole thing. At the end. Delicious Windows. So what? Is MS seriously thinking of making Windows taste good? Mmm.... I could go for some moist delicious windows right not come to think of it.

Reason? No. But I think it would be funny.

Re: Microsoft fights back against "Get a Mac" with... Jerry Seinfeld?
A minute ago I walked passed the TV in the living room and guess what I saw? One of their "Surprise! It's Vista!" commercials.
Is MS really doing that bad that they have to fix their image? I know Vista is a virtual flop, but seriously. Wow.. It's a good time to live in. We got Apple putting out an aggressive campaign talking about how everyone's switching to Mac because it's cooler. And MS on the other side putting out surreal fake credit card commercials redressed as a commercial for what appears to be an upcoming moist and delicious version of Windows. And at the same time, another campaign begging people to reconsider Vista.
This is weird. A decade ago it was more Apple trying to get people to consider the Mac OS. Now MS has to lure people back over to their side.

I for one was not pleased by having to see Bill Gates wiggle his ass at me.

I saw the commercial in HD the other day during Seinfeld on TBS HD. (Ironic? No, coincidental. I also saw commercials for Apple, Burger King, Wendy's and McDonalds all during the same show. BTW, Seinfeld, the show, is now in HD on TBS in case you didn't know.)
I still don't get it and await the next commercials to hopefully clear up the fog here.

It's not actually 'in' HD, I assume.

Ad #1 is just to get people talking. It seems to have worked.

Re: Microsoft fights back against "Get a Mac" with... Jerry Seinfeld?
No, it is "IN" HD. Sony took the original film and scanned it and cropped it and retitled it. It's 1080i/p. I noticed stuff today you just could not see on the original low resolution SD broadcasts. Like background jokes that totally make the episode better.
It is as "in" HD as say, an old movie you see on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD is. Like Back to the Future or Willy Wonka. Movies shot on film are able to be scanned at a higher resolution than a movie they recorded on tape.

Well that's amazing, TBS often just blows smurf up to fit on the screen on their HD station.

It got me thinking. Not so much about Windows, but about a wacky buddy movie with Jerry and Bill.
Maybe they could discover a duffle bag of diamonds and they have to return it to its owner while being chased by the Canadian Mafia.
Just a thought.

The first one was just to get people talking. Obviously they are.
As for the rest... life is complex. Gates has his 'save the world' foundation, gives millions and helps raise more to fight disease and hunger, and has willed away all his money to charity. The Steve can't be found on any charity list; his wife gives a smidge to the Democratic party. If Gates wanted the world at his feet he wouldn't have given up all but a minor, day-a-week position at MS for his Foundation work.
Humor's one thing, perspective has its place too.

His philanthopy came about because of his wife, not any inate sense of social responsibility.

Umm not All.
Planning on leaving his children $10 million each, "Gates has always said that, like Carnegie, he will give away most of his fortune before he dies. He plans to make sure his children are well taken care of but doesn’t want to leave them the burden of tremendous wealth."
Me thinks Jennifer, Rory & Phoebe have nothing to worry about. Obviously his idea of 'tremendous wealth' is skewed. Ten million by most standards is tremendously wealthy. Sure pocket change to him but not to the rest of us serfs. NTM his kids are still young. Not even teenagers yet. Whos to say that after they graduate from their free ride at Yale or Harvard they won't ask papa to finance their multi million dollar <insert idea here>.
Amen to Bill, family and success but he didn't get there by playing nice. You can polish a turd all you want. In the end it's still gonna be a turd.

Back when BillG was worth only $10 billion or so, he did state that he wanted to give most of his wealth to charity leaving no more than 5 per cent to his heirs.

Make it virtually all, then. At $60 Billion give or take, I make $30M ~0.05%.
You really wanted me to bring this up here of all places?..
A former lieutenant of Steve Jobs's once told me something surprising about his ex-boss. "Steve is a monopolist at heart," he said. "He's just like Bill Gates. He just hasn't been as successful." Well, Jobs is getting there. This summer, Apple's market capitalization surged past Google's, making it the financial king of Silicon Valley.
Newsweek 9/08
Bill's business practices weren't good. His philanthropy is, is real, and he works hard at it. Steve's appears not to exist, hence.. complexity.
