Buying Ram???

What do I need to look for when buying PC 133 SDRAM for a Quicksilver?  As long as it meets all the specs does it  need to be labeled for a Mac?

Re: Buying Ram???

By definition, a PC133 is a piece of RAM which meets PC133 specs.

Going with Crucial.com is not a mistake.

In other words, it doesn't need to be labeled 'mac' to work.  smile

Re: Buying Ram???

Well, yes and no. The RAM you need for that Mac should be PC-133, 3.3v, unbuffered, 8-byte, non-parity, 168-pin SDRAMs. There were some problems with that period of Macs when Apple made some changes in OS X which did checks on the RAM and found some sticks unsuitable after that OS X upgrade.

I recommend (and use) RAM from Other World Computing--the link is to their page for RAM for the last model of the Quicksilver G4s, but all of the Quicksilvers use the same type of RAM.

Re: Buying Ram???

The cheapest new PC133 chips you find will work fine!
The only RAM I have ever had fail, was supplied by Apple, or an authorized reseller.

That's actually been my experience as well. Weird.

I usually buy Corsair Value Select from Newegg and out of probably 2 dozen various sticks I've not had a single one fail. Not a huge sampling, but enough to keep me buying.
