All about Governor Palin's problems

Unless it's truly significant, lets keep all these little stories about Palin confined to this thread, OK?

This seriously deserves it's own thread.
Why aren't the surrogates out there hammering this smurf into the ground?
Where's hillary/biden etc...? As a "leader" she's laughable at best.

Re: All about Governor Palin's problems

This mud slinging is really interesting.
I think the left may be scared she brings something valuable to the McCain campaign.

It's really not that common that you see more mud slung against the VP on the ticket than the P on the ticket.

And we aren't seeing it here. We're just seeing it all at once rather than spread out over months or years.

And the only thing we're scared of is the possibility that McCain's desperate, purely political appointment could put in the White House an inept ideologue whose only qualification is being governor of fewer people than are in my city.

Re: All about Governor Palin's problems

res, the McCain-Palin campaign set the tone and threw down the gauntlet by their own attacks and the holier-than-thou attitude they assume. Is it any wonder that the media is hunting for these types of stories?

Re: All about Governor Palin's problems

1) Wasilla is a small, rural town. Meth labs thrive in these places. I'm not sure how it necessarily says squat about Palin.
2) All of this mudslinging is taking away from the Obama campaign. Seriously, when was the last time you heard anything from the Obama camp that wasn't a rebuttal.

She isn't running for President, it is highly unlikely she will do squat beyond sitting in on Senate votes, and unless she is Cheney's protege, will likely have little effect on policy. Frankly, I would almost prefer her to be incompetent. We've all seen what a competent VP can do the last 8 years.

Thus, I fail to see how this firestorm of controversy is doing anything positive.

Well, there was that recent convention.

You're doing what the McCain camp wants you to:  Associating any and every attack on Palin with the campaign.

I mean everything I'm seeing on left blogs everywhere.

They are really going after this gal.

Not surprising, being as though she was just introduced last week and was a nobody on the national scene prior to that.

Ah, but we do know the crap she's bringing to the campaign.
So we'll just work with what we have.

Re: All about Governor Palin's problems

Maybe they don't want the right to be the first to put a woman in the white house.
Maybe they are afraid having a woman on the ticket will attract a lot of the older woman voters who have stated numerous times that they would vote for Hilary just to see a woman elected in their lifetime.

But I honestly don't know.

While I suppose you could interpret #2 as saying that, I was actually not accusing Obama's team of the mudslinging. Most of it seems to be from lib-tard blogs, but the major 'news' organizations keep picking it up, and running it mainstream.

My point was that all of the attention, good or bad, is focused on Palin, instead of the two actual candidates. It's reached an absurd point where we are spending more time talking about one candidate for VP than we are the two candidates for President. I am hoping it dies down soon, so we can get back to the business of finding out more about McCain and Obama's positions, policy ideas, and general demeanor.

Frankly, I don't agree with Palin, but barring McCain's death, she will likely be a bit player. As it is, she is turning into a major distraction - similar to the way Monica Lewinsky distracted us from all the other serious crap that was going on during the late 90's.

There are far better reasons to reject her and the McCain ticket, so I doubt it.

But I honestly don't know.

There no indication that this is happening.

Obama's team plan to ignore her for the most part it seems, and the McCain campaign is going to keep her away from the media at all costs (they've already admitted as much).

However, the ethics investigation in Alaska is being fast-tracked and she's obviously planning to stonewall their inquiry now, so expect to hear more on that I would guess.

Frankly, I'm a bit amazed there are so many women willing to throw a whole life's worth of ideals away over the gender of the candidate. Life long democrats willing to either stay home, or worse - vote for McCain, because Hillary didn't get the nod? That's retarded. Yes, I know they are disappointed - but they are going to be a whole lot MORE disappointed if we have another 4-8 years of BushCo. How many generations of women have lived and died without seeing a female President? Yeah, lots.

I forget whose sig it is, but the truth this there is a difference between being disappointed, and having a madman in the White House.

Ironically, the more I learn about Obama's positions, the more I really have fallen away. I find I don't like a lot of what he is proposing. However, I like McCain/Palin even less. I fear they will simply serve out Bush's 3rd term with more of the same crap. Frankly, as much as I may distrust Obama, I don't think our nation can afford another term or two of BushCo politics.

Re: All about Governor Palin's problems

I will probably be voting for Obama as well, I don't like a lot of his ideas but he strikes me as honest.
Hopefully he won't be another Jimmy Carter - a really good man who was bad for the country.

The VP pick says tons about the candidate.
This one says McCain's a smurfing wingnut.

I think there is some fear. Fear of the unknown, because no one knows anything about her. And I suspect a lot of conservatives will think she'll be a distraction to the issues, and at the same time they feel that the Dems will be too afraid to attack a woman.

But personally I don't see any of this being important because it's still early days yet. Her whole life is now an open book, and people are poring over every detail. Meanwhile best-case scenario none of this has anything to do with the issues.
