Re: All about Governor Palin's problems
I think the idea that Palin has the chops to be a viable presidential candidate is absolutely hilarious. The republicans are in a low spot right now but they have scores of potential runners who far more likely to win than Palin.
Palin has no more of a political future than that weird old dude Perot choose as his veep.
"and it's not surprising that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

If the Republicans really want to take a shot at the White House in 2012, they need to nominate somebody who's clearly competent. So, Cheney it is then.
So what would be the likely outcome of a Cheney/Palin hunting trip?

Re: All about Governor Palin's problems
Oh dear, this time it's "unnamed governors!"
MIAMI (CNN) — Some Republican governors tell CNN they were not particularly happy with the way the Republican Governors Association press conference was executed Thursday, saying that they agreed to go as a show of GOP governors’ unity — but they ended up feeling like silent Palin supporters, since it was clearly a press conference called for her.
The GOP governors spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity.
One called it awkward: “I’m sure you could see it on some of our faces.”
Another Republican governor eyeing a presidential run in 2012 told CNN the event was “odd” and “weird,” and said it “unfortunately sent a message that she was the de facto leader of the party."
There has been palpable tension among some GOP governors gathered in Miami that Palin has been sucking up all the media oxygen.
In an interview with CNN, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour shrugged off that suggestion.
"That's just somebody running down a rabbit trail. There's plenty of oxygen here,” he said.

Not meant to be understood by a Canadian...
I don't understand it either, its likely some litmus test for TRUE AMERICANs.
Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

You can have your laughter - just remember that after Clinton, the Democrat party sucked so badly that Bush got re-elected.

Right. Because losing an election by the electoral votes in one state was in any way comparable to this election. Now also think of WHY Republicans are losing, when they appeal to an ever shrinking demographic of Southern, rural, white evangelicals and you'll see why this situation won't be easy to turn around short term.

Re: All about Governor Palin's problems
The Pubs are funnier, at least. Satirists have been lamenting the dearth of material for weeks now.
Last night on "Wait Wait- Don't tell me!", PJ O'Rourke opined that Bush's memoirs would begin with "It were the best of times, it were the worst of times," tho I'm more inclined towards "It were a dark & stormy night." The host ascribed the to some nonsensical title Quantum of Solace to Palin, tho her original submission was "That Quantum of Solace There." And Bush gave an interview on CNN where he chalked up his years as 'just one of those Presidencies'- you know, the kind we all have now and again, where really tough decisions have to be made and go wrong. (Yeah, I remember like it was just... waitaminnit.
)
Satirists and comedians have been reduced to puppy & big ear jokes. Sad.

Gore won the popular vote. For all the republican bullsmurf pulled during his administration, Clinton ended up being far more popular than Bush will likely ever be.
Furthermore, you might consider looking into how often the same party has historically held the white house for three terms....not often.
This was quite a decisive win for the party--Clinton never won over half of the popular vote, IIRC.
