Ah, the 1980's!
Those of you who are really young probably never heard about how we all had household robots back in those days.
Of course, that was before our mechanized servants rose up against us. That's why folks never speak of the Great Robot Age, and why you don't see robots in the home anymore, except for the occasional Roomba. Too many painful memories, too many loved ones slain by our own twisted creations.

No, it was a cat. And we may have words there yet.

Isn't that the house robot in Runaway? Please don't make me rent a bad 80's movie to remember.

I wanted one of those robot kits in the worst way, but at 14 didnt have anywhere near the income to get one.
I wonder if you can still find the kits?

I had much smaller robot kits in the 80s.

Re: Ah, the 1980's!
The 80's for me was more about Atari and the NES, playing with my LEGO, fun with my friends when I had some that liked to socialize and going to Christian school.
Not much about robots for me. We did get our first computer back then though. Sadly it was not an Altair or a Macintosh or Tandy or Commodore or anything cool. It was a homebrew IBM compatible clone with DOS. Though we went through a few before finally settling on the one we kept for 6 years until the early 90's when we got a Windows 386 machine.
Though we did keep the 286 and when our 386 crashed to death once, I dug it back out in the mid-90's and taught myself QBasic on it.

The original vaporware. I would love to have a robot to message my feet right now... until football starts in which it could perform other needy duties of course.

I find it hilarious that in 20 years, we have made absolutely no advancements in the field of home robots. Heck, according to that ad we've taken a few steps back. The only robot you can really get these days is a Roomba, and it certainly doesn't remind me about my appointments!
