Mirror Drive Door (MDD) G4
I have 1Ghz cpu from FW800 133mhz logic board. My question is, can the 1GHz cpu from the 133mhz FW800 motherboard work on or in the FW400 133MH motherboard for a powermac g4 mdd?

I think so...
Check eshop.macsales.com - they have a CPU upgrade finder. If the two machines use the same CPU upgrades, it's a good bet the CPUs are compatible.

Yes it will work the only thing you have to keep in mind is if you take a processor from a 133mhz BUS board and apply it to a 100mhz BUS board the processor will clock down.

I would assume so. You said both boards have the same bus speed, so that shouldn't be an issue. What did the processor come out of originally...a powermac I assume?

Re: Mirror Drive Door (MDD) G4
The 1GHz processor came out of the MDD FW800 133Mhz motherboard. I did get it to work with out major problems. The only problem I had was due to stupidity, getting the jumpers on the 2 hard drives set correctly.
Original software for the MDD was 10.2 and 9.2.2. I now want the 9.2.2. I have tried 9.2.1 and that will not work for me. I did get 9.2.1 to boot the MDD, but then I got an message that 9.2.1 will not install and that I needed 9.2.2 with quicktime 6.0.3. Any ideas on where I can gets my hands on 9.2.2 with quicktime 6.0.3 other than watch ebay?

Re: Mirror Drive Door (MDD) G4
I ended up with (this one was hand me down) MDD Dual 1 Ghz CPU with 167MHz Mobo with a strange problem. Turn it off and when to go turn it back on have to unplug it, plug back in and then it will turn on. Change the battery and reset the pmu. I am thinking it is the power supply. Once it is on, it seems to run okay. Any thoughts?

Re: Mirror Drive Door (MDD) G4
I would think it's the PSU...suppose it could be the mobo, but that doesn't sound too likely.

Re: Mirror Drive Door (MDD) G4
Will a dual 1.42ghz fw800 167MHz work in dual 1ghz fw400 167Mhz MDD? I want to change the cpu in my dual 1ghz to either dual 1.25 or dual 1.42.

Re: Mirror Drive Door (MDD) G4
It should. Also since both boards have the same bus, it should be a simple drop in upgrade. Altho, i'd double check on the heatsinks for both. Make sure they didn't use a special one on the 1.42. Off hand I can't remember on those. I personally did more with the Quicksilver than MDD.

Re: Mirror Drive Door (MDD) G4
From my understanding the FW800 MDD came with bluetooth. If it does, where on the mobo does it go and does it need an antenna?
Is the FW800 suppose to MDD or not, or just a version of the MDD?

Re: Mirror Drive Door (MDD) G4
I found where the bluetooth goes. But, I have another question. Is there heat issues with FW800 dual 1.42?

Re: Mirror Drive Door (MDD) G4
Is it normal for the MDD FW800 side and the top of the case to be warm where the power supply is?
