G4 Logic Board Repair

Hello,

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 1.67GHz. I'm having a problem with the logic board (lower memory slot failure), which seems to mirror the problems that many other users of the 15" PB G4s have had. This cropped up THREE days after my AppleCare plan expired! cry

I've searched high and low for reasonably-priced replacement logic boards to no avail. I recently moved to Ireland, but before doing so found a company on the east coast (of the U.S.) that said they could fix this with a simple re-soldering job. I had no time to get the computer to them and wait for the repair and return shipping before leaving for Ireland. I happen to find myself now surrounded by electrical engineers, many of whom are proficient in soldering, etc. Does anyone know where this break occurs in the circuitry, or how to find it? Has anyone written about it, made a YouTube video, or otherwise? I really appreciate any help you all might give me.

Thanks!
Brennon

You're in Ireland? You have consumer protection laws covering your ass, then. Contact a consumer organisation. A portable computer should last about four to five years, no matter what the manufacturer states as "warranty".

Re: G4 Logic Board Repair

Really?  Even if I bought the system in California three years ago, and only moved to Ireland (Northern Ireland / United Kingdom, actually) three weeks ago?
