You've made a number of similar errors in this thread alone, and it leaves a less than favorable impression of you. In an effort to try to help you (in a friendly way) in the future, I will point out these errors and correct them below. Well(,) you can't vote if your (you're) not "registered". I was giving the people in these forums the benafit (benefit) of a doubt that they knew thay (they) had to be registered to vote.

I particularly want to emphasize your consistent misspelling of the word "they," which I believe I've seen from your posts in other threads as well. That word is a very, very basic word in our language, so consistently misspelling it leaves an especially poor impression of you in the mind of the reader.
Again, this was meant to be friendly and helpful, so that you can be a better writer in the future.

Re: Registered Voters
I just dropped my registration in the mailbox yesterday, I let it get kinda down to the wire but there's still some time left in case I somehow managed to smurf up the form.
Assuming things go alright on that end, yes, I'll be voting. I'm twenty, BTW.

Re: Registered Voters
Crap. My registration expired on January 1st, and the registration deadline is today. There really ought to be a way to register online, but there doesn't seem to be one for Texas.
This is really stupid on the part of my state, especially in light of the fact that driver's license renewal and other DL-related activities can be completed entirely online. If SSL (https) encryption is considered secure enough to allow for that with driver's licenses, I don't see why it's not also considered secure enough for voter registration. The closest thing Texas has to online voter registration is downloading and printing a PDF that still gets sent via snail mail.

Here in Brevard, registration only expires if you miss two major elections (IE 2004, 2006) or if you move.

Yes but rules of expiration vary from place to place. Here in Brevard the rule is two major election cycles but voting automatically updates you with the same registration information.

That's smurfing stupid. You should only have to re-register if you change your address.

I wasn't old enough to vote in the 2004 elections; I missed it by a week. I registered in September 2005 (a simple checkbox when I was filling out a form for my DL) but didn't vote in the congressional elections of 2006.

Well if you vote regularly here, you only have to re-register when you change your name, party, or address.
Heck depending on if it's an in county move you may only have to fill out an online change of address form.
If you haven't voted since before 2004 however.

In Brevard you'd be valid as you only missed one major election (2006) since registering.

When was the last time you voted?
Mine says that it doesn't expire until 12/31/09, and I know they just automatically sent me this one as I still have my previous card for this address.

Re: Registered Voters
Oh, wow. There's a chance I may have been wrong about my registration being expired. You see, I lost my voter registration card, so what I was doing was using the Voter registration website to check whether or not I was registered. It's possible I may have misread it.
Here's what mine says about my registration regarding dates.
Valid From: 01/01/2008
Effective Date of Registration: 09/22/2005
I was reading that as "Valid until," not "valid from," and thus interpreting it as "You registered to vote on 9/22/2005 but that expired on 1/1/2008." Now that I see it says "valid from" I'm thinking and hoping I was wrong. Just to confirm, it would be nice if someone else in Texas who knows they're not expired (I'm looking at you bratboy
) would check to see what the site says for them. If ours say the same thing for "valid from," then that would probably mean I was wrong and my registration hasn't expired. I would really appreciate it so that I don't have to waste a trip to the polls when I'm handicapped like this.

Haha, I'm glad I was wrong. I was indeed misreading the site, so I will be able to vote this year after all. Phew.

It depends.
If you are registering democrat, you have to fill out a 7 page form in triplicate in four different languages, including at least one language that uses right to left and one language that uses multiple vowel points.
It must be certified by four different judges and be stamped by the blood of a guinea hen.
If you are registered as republican, it's much easier - just show proof of your subscription renewal to Instinct Magazine and you are all good. Must be renewal though, can't be a new subscription.

Re: Registered Voters
In all seriousness though, I don't have to register to a specific party, do I? I know which candidate I want to vote for this time around, but I only recently stopped being apathetic so I'm not even sure where I am on the political spectrum. I've tried various political compass quizzes online, but they placed me all over the map with different results depending on the quiz.

Well, a patriotic view holds that if you like to vote for and elect candidates from party X, y or AA, you declare a party.
Although, I held an "I" affiliation from 76-06. Lately, I declare. It's good for the stats.

Re: Registered Voters
In 1984 I remember watching a get out the vote advertisement.
It was a silent pan of one of the fields in Arlington National Cemetary. 15 seconds of tombstones. Then the message in large white letters superimposed over the picture.
"Vote. They did."
I've voted ever since I became eligible. I see no reason to stop now.
A right that is unexercised is one that will soon be lost.
