***BREAKING NEWS*** Alaska panel finds Palin abused power in firing
SORRY SARAH!
Bad news for the McCain-Palin campaign 3 weeks from election day, no? Abuse of power is a serious thing. Good thing she's not a terrorist though.
***AP BREAKING NEWS***
edit: MSNBC is saying that the report says Palin broke state law. I can't believe that this issue was in any way properly vetted by the campaign knowing what we do now about how rushed that process was.
How will this effect the race going forward with already polls showing her negative ratings skyrocketing?

Alaska panel finds Palin abused power in firing
By MATT APUZZO, Associated Press Writer
A legislative committee investigating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has found she unlawfully abused her authority in firing the state's public safety commissioner. The investigative report concludes that a family grudge wasn't the sole reason for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan but says it likely was a contributing factor.
The Republican vice presidential nominee has been accused of firing a commissioner to settle a family dispute. Palin supporters have called the investigation politically motivated.
Monegan says he was dismissed as retribution for resisting pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute.

Read Finding number 2 in the pdf linked by bedstuy:
Finding Number Two
I find that, although Wal Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commisioner of Public Safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin's firing of commisioner Monegahn was a proper and lawful excercise of her constitutional and statuatory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.

Of course to get to that you should have read Finding Number One:
For reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.

So will this erode her support, or will her supporters react by sticking their thumbs in their ears, scrunching their eyes, and singing 'la la la' every time someone brings the subject up?
If our forever lengthy friend is any indication, this won't even be a blip with them. The bastard shouldn't have divorced Sarah's sister in the first place, that's all. Right?

Re: ***BREAKING NEWS*** Alaska panel finds Palin abused power in firing
This is the nail in the McCain coffin. Put the preverbal folk in him. His campaign has really become pathetic. He was at a rally today and he was forced to defend Obama over his own attack adds (adds that imply Obama is a bad person who can't be trusted, affiliates himself with terrorist/is a terrorist sympathizer). The questions from the audience seemed to be coming from people with a maximum of a 5th grade education, and thats' being kind. (Thats' what you get in town hall settings as you never know what you are going to get) One question where McCain had to correct a questioner from the crowd went kind of like this: "Obama is an Arab and I don't trust him. He's not a citizen, how can we trust him?" McCaine couldn't rip the mike away from the person quick enough and correct her obvious misstatements. On another occasion McCain responded to a guy stating that he thought Obama not trustworthy and "feared an America lead by him" bringing a child in the would in April. are so full of mistruths he can't even repat them in public. McCain again backtracked on his negative adds in this same forum to the mans statement stating he was a "good man who would make a good family man, was trustworthy president, and would make a good president.
There were others outside the rally being shown shouting Obama is a terrorist!
Hmmmm, between this man and his corrupt running mate it seems like more flip flopping and certainly dishonesty than a John Kerry campaign by far (not that I thought Kerry was dishonest and I did vote for him over the two evils). His own base is turning on him. (His brilliant housing buy-out plan anyone?). Real conservatives don't like this plan at all and are being vocal about it.
Then his health care plan. Me, like most Americans, get my families insurance through my employer. I have an awesome plan. Under McCain's plan I will be penalized/taxed for being insured and this tax will vary o keep it if you have an A+ plan. If you do have what the government deems above average insurance then you will pay a lot more a B plan, for example. This tax money then goes to people who don't have insurance in the form of a $5,000 "tax rebate" to be used to choose an insurance plan. Either that or you take the 5gs and buy a sucky plan because you are strapped for cash and don't want to be taxed/penalized for having insurance. Another problem is you will only get $2,500 to use if you are single. I'm sure you can buy a good plan for this?
smurf that... I have a wife and 2 small children hat are always sick, one of which has issues that require services and lots of medical appointments. McCain's plan would directly impact not only my family but most families.
He's in deep smurf. Unless we get bombed (and maybe even so), Obama's a lock.

Yeah, I hate it when they go and legislate against things they know you're going to do for your friends and relatives once you have the power of elected office. It's like they're out to get you.

So, the AP article says
Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein disagreed with Branchflower's conclusions. ''In order to violate the ethics law, there has to be some personal gain, usually financial. Mr. Branchflower has failed to identify any financial gain,'' he said.
"Usually" does not mean "Always".
Some subjects actually enjoy pain, and withhold information they might otherwise have divulged in order to be punished.

Re: ***BREAKING NEWS*** Alaska panel finds Palin abused power in firing
It should be noted that the report identifies MANY different ways in which power was abused. The question of abuse did not go only to the firing.

Of course her attorney disagreed with the conclusions. It's his job to disagree with anything that may work against his client.
