Non-christians want an Obama win

As if McCain's rallies couldn't get any more offensive:

A minister delivering the invocation at John McCain’s rally in Davenport, Iowa Saturday told the crowd non-Christian religions around the world were praying for Barack Obama to win the U.S. presidential election.

“There are millions of people around this world praying to their god—whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah—that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens,” said Arnold Conrad, the former pastor of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Davenport.

eek

How could anyone find this appropriate?

The remark was made before McCain arrived at the rally but the Republican nominee's campaign quickly put out a statement distancing itself from the remarks.

“While we understand the important role that faith plays in informing the votes of Iowans, questions about the religious background of the candidates only serve to distract from the real questions in this race about Barack Obama's judgment, policies and readiness to lead as commander in chief,” said McCain campaign spokesperson Wendy Riemann.

Fair enough, but don't they screen these guys beforehand?  You think they'd be a bit more careful after the bad press all the crazies gave them last week.

That is good. However, he's misquoted. Here's the real stuff:

Lilia: Dathan, if you fear God, let me go.
Dathan: I am here, girl, because I would put no fear in a desert god and his mud-pit prophet. I am here because I bowed lower than my brothers before the Egyptians. Now the Egyptians bow low before me. Joshua wanted you. Baka wanted you. But you belong to me, a gift from Rameses.
Lilia: I will bow before you, Dathan. I will work my hands raw for you. But please do not shame me before my Lord.
Dathan: Your lord is the govenor of Goshen.
Lilia: What difference to my shame?
Dathan: No difference to you, my dove of Cannan, but to a condemned slave like Joshua it could mean the difference between death on the spikes and life in the copper mines of Sinai. What would you do to influence his excellency's clemency?
Lilia: [sobbing] Anything, Dathan, anything.
Dathan: Joshua will always be grateful to you.

Reverberations through the ages.

Re: Non-christians want an Obama win

He's also wrong - there are many Christians, even evangelicals, who want Obama to win.
Some of them do not like talk about it because politics tends to be very polarizing, it does seem that quite a few (but not all) of them are very partisan never vote for a democrat - but I'm guessing those are a minority, most would seriously consider Democrat candidates, many of them are going to vote for Obama.

Re: Non-christians want an Obama win

How about Obama the anti-christ?  I'm surprised we haven't been hearing more of this:

"I'm scared of Obama - from what I have read and his associations which are questionable, his so-called terrorist associations, and even his church," said Lori Raynor, a biochemist. "I just don't think he can run this country." She added: "Some of my friends have even told me they think he is the anti-Christ."

Others remained convinced that Obama was a Muslim, even while criticising his choice of church for the past 20 years. "I believe he has had a Muslim upbringing, but his wife is a Christian," said Scott Wallace, a physician's assistant.

Link.

Kinda scary that this is what the biochemist in the audience is saying....

I question the qualifications of a biochemist who thinks that voting against the anti-Christ is going to stop the anti-Christ.

I’m not ready to make nice-I’m not ready to back down-I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round-It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could-‘Cause I’m mad as hell-Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

That may be why there isn't quite as much fear mongering about Obama being the anti-christ.

Well, whenever they do it - it always is silly.

The anti-christ isn't someone we can prevent from coming to power, so accusations of soandso being the anti-christ isn't going to change anything if he really is. It's mostly just FUD, and any decent pastor will discourage such activity amongst his congregation.
