MacBook Pro -- TWO onboard graphics chips and user can pick one ! 32 graphics cores (16 per chip or 32 per chip ?) Firewire 800 only (mmm that may ruffle some feathers ) ! Larger trackpad ?

Yeah what about DV editing on the Pro? No firewire 400 is gonna cripple that in a major way.

Wonder what the resolution of the new 24 inch display is.

1920x1200 - freakin sweet!
Price is a little high though but otherwise sounds like a good improvement over the old displays.

I'm not to keen on the "whole touchpad being the mouse button" idea. Sounds like a problem waiting to happen if you ask me. Tapping to click is one thing. Pressing the whole pad down is another.

I think people will love that feature when they get use to it.

They didn't make mention on whether or not the MacBooks came with Firewire 400 or not. Still wondering on that one.

Play faster.
Games get up to a 5x performance boost in the new MacBook.1 Power your way through the 3D environments of Quake, Call of Duty, and Spore. Enjoy faster, smoother, more responsive gameplay. And marvel at how great those game graphics look: They’re crisper, they’re more finely detailed, and they make the most of the brilliant LED-backlit display.

Re: Apple event is on: Oct 14, 2008
You are right. No Firewire port on the new MacBook and only Firewire 800 on the Pro. That is the stupidest design move they could have made in my opinion. Firewire is to Apple what the Mustang is to Ford. It's just a given that it will be available on the machine.
This is a serious enough flaw that I won't be buying either. I'll just stick with my Mac Pro and be happy.

I think the best thing to come out of this "press conference" is the new display. Everything else is just, well, sucky?

Not as much as you'd think.
9-pin/6-pin cable
9-pin/4-pin cable

Only one Firewire 800 port. This really sucks.
You realize you can chain FireWire devices. Ofc it works best 800/9-pin to 800/9-pin to 400/6-pin to 400/6-pin to 400/4-pin to 400/4-pin.

Such a large border on the screen of the pro-book..
The TiBook was slimmest; then came the thicker Alubook, then the MBP; and now this one. Steadily getting wider.

I think both the new MBP and MB are 0.95 inches thin.
