Bought a new MB or MBP? Let us know about them.
Lucky dogs! You got one of the new laptops. I'm especially interested to know if they are quiet or not.

I also have a question on how bootcamp handles the "two" graphics cards in the MBP?
Mac Pro, Two 3GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, NVIDIA 8800 GT, 7 GB RAM.
15" Macbook Pro, 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo, NVIDIA 9600 M, 4 GB RAM.

On the 9400M equipped Macbooks anyway. The good news is Apple set up Migration over network a while back which can be faster than FW800 in speed.

Re: Bought a new MB or MBP? Let us know about them.
that doesn't really help a failing screen or a blown video card... boot into TDM and boom all your stuff.
or another laptop needs cloned... boot into TDM fire up CCC and boom (after 30 to 40 min) 2 like machines.

I read somewhere that Windows uses only the best "super-duper" card, not the integrated one. Can't do both at the same time like many people wish. Probably because it would get too hot and the battery would last 30 mins. And Apple doesn't want that.

That is good enough for me, I just didn't want it defaulting to the 9400.

Hmmm. Maybe nobody is buying these things. Curse you, Steve Jobs, for taking away Firewire. Now look what you've done!

Today's (10/16/08) Accelerate Your Mac has some first-hand reports from people with the next MBs and MBPs. With enough reports the guy running that site will set up a page collecting all of these reports.

I love mine. It is very quiet.
The only annoyance I have come across is that the "pinching" motion that results in zooming is a little too sensitive- it happens a lot when I am using the two finger scroll function. From what I can tell, too, there is no way to turn it off... I don't see the option in the "trackpad" control panel.

Macbook.
This thing feels rock solid, too, which is a welcome change from my older macbook that didn't feel as solidly put together.

I ordered the 2.53 GHZ MacBook Pro. It will takes 3 to 4 weeks for it to be delivered
Hopes I get it faster than that though.
Can't wait. My 1st gen MBP is feeling old now that I know I will get the new one.

The build and feel maybe better and feel better (my MBP finish feels high end to me), but the cosmetic changes are really minor unless you know what to look for. (Obviously I'm speaking of the MBP only here). The lack of an option for a matte screen sucks, I don't care what anyone says. Also, my current 2nd gen 2.16GHz MBP still seems to fly (I don't game). This being the case, I still do not feel compelled in any way to upgrade.
That being said, these new machines are gorgeous (FINALLY went latchless!) and the specs are nice and will no doubt take advantage of Snow Leopard's graphic card capabilities.

Re: Bought a new MB or MBP? Let us know about them.
I'm not too keen on the inclusion of both video cards myself. I don't know why but I just have this feeling that they will eventually cause a glitch somewhere somehow. The fact that you have to reboot to change GPU modes (integrated versus dedicated) is another sticking point.
Nobody has posted what their experience is with bootcamp yet and the dual GPU's either. I wonder how Windows will handle the existence of both at the same time. Or are they electrically turned off (one or the other) at boot time depending upon the type of power connection that exists? How will Windows handle the back and forth swapping of the cards if this is the case?
I ask this because there are a lot of "pros" that must use bootcamp or at least Parallels/VM Ware to accomplish some tasks that can't be done in OS X.
I would be interested in hearing some first hand reports on this multi-GPU situation. Would be quite the eye opener to find out the answers.

Re: Bought a new MB or MBP? Let us know about them.
Hybrid SLI/Crossfire has existed and worked under Windows for some time. It just hasn't been widely used or on most Mac-users' radars.
ABIT HAS UNVEILED its newest motherboard, the A-N78HD, for AMD Socket AM2+/AM2 processors. It is the first Abit mainboard to support Nvidia’s Hybrid SLI technology, and is based on that company’s Geforce 8200 chipset.
Abit says that its new offering, which it calls a multimedia platform motherboard, puts more focus on video output flexibility, giving users three different connection options on-board. The first is the standard D-Sub VGA connector, the second is DVI for high resolution monitors and the third option is HDMI for HD monitors and TV devices with combined HD audio output. Abit also reckons its support for Hybrid SLI will make it easier to push further ahead in advanced graphics upgrades in the future.
The company also boasts that its mainboard offers “GeForce Boost” and “Hybrid Power”. GeForce Boost gives the user scalable graphics performance if they install an extra discrete graphics card, and Hybrid Power lets them switch off any unused graphics adaptor, which means it can work on lower power consumption.
Abit didn't make their board, for AMD CPUs, with OSX in mind. From 4/18.

So are you saying that Windows would recognize both GPUs as active at the same time?

Re: Bought a new MB or MBP? Let us know about them.
I haven't paid as close attention to this as to some matters, and have no personal experience. The tech articles are out there, tho, if you're curious. I'll get to it sooner or later, but not right away.
Windows would recognize both. How shutdown, switching, etc. are handled I don't recall. I think in some instances you can have both active in some complementary fashion, but I'd have to check to be sure.

Re: Bought a new MB or MBP? Let us know about them.
Oh okay. I guess I could stop being lazy and google it up to see if anyone has posted any reviews on the Windows on a new MacBook Pro situation yet. Was just figuring that someone here might have or might be getting ready to experiment on this themselves.
