The "Jesus Phone"
I am disappointed with the editors for the tone taken in "Nicknames Be Damned!" in the November issue. I am a small business owner and I would never think of treating a customer with such disrespect, not to mention the others who share Gabe's sentiments. Are you that confident in your future that you can afford to burn bridges so quickly and smugly?
I only wish the editorial staff would have taken a little less time researching and crafting that response. It may have freed up the much needed time to find the at least two typos in article TITLES and bylines. Body copy typos are forgivable, but titles and bylines. C'mon. Where's the professionalism guys.

Re: The "Jesus Phone"
I wasn't bothered by the response, in fact I think it was well balanced. The first words were an apology for any unintended offense. From there it goes on to explain that many other news/information sources had used that term. It said a lot in a little space.

Re: The "Jesus Phone"
I'm guessing some hypersensitive religious nut wrote a letter to the magazine complaining about the term Jesusphone, and the M|L staff rightly told said nut to shove off?

Re: The "Jesus Phone"
I bet if you used the word "naggerphone", some hypersensitive racist would object to that and you would be falling all over yourselves. what goes around comes around.

That is one of the most idiotic and senseless things I've read here in a long time.

Right, because racists or people against racism tend to be hypersensitive about nagging.

He doesn't have one. He is just trying really hard to demonstrate the depths of how silly he can make himself look.

A very inexpensive phone called the NiggardPhone might generate some controversy. But inexpensive the iPhone ain't.

Re: The "Jesus Phone"
I was not offended by the use of the Jesus phone in the original article. I was insulted by the flippant response that was given to the reader that was offended. I won't be renewing my subscription to M|L more over I won't be recommending the magazine to any one of the Mac User Groups that I am a part of.
Oh well I guess they'll miss me too.

How were they supposed to respond? I really am curious about this.

Re: The "Jesus Phone"
When MacAddict changed to Mac|Life I decided to let my subscription lapse. I wasn't pleased by the content, the corporate-esque new feel, the empty layout, the unhelpful (to me) reviews and the oddly rudderless way they seemed to be steering the magazine.
But now I'm not so certain that I'll let it run out. I've been enjoying the reviews more (they have seemed more relevant to what I'm interested in), and that huge 1and1 advertising section notwithstanding the layout and style seems to be cohering into something I enjoy more.
I'm paid up for a LONG time. Plenty of time to judge.
And as for "The Jesus Phone?" It's funny and entirely unoffensive. I've heard it plenty of other places than in M|L, and I call mine that too.
