Anyone nervous about a Democratic monopoly on power?
The Congressional Democrats have gone along with pretty much everything Dubya wanted. Even now, with the guy's approval ratings in the smurf, they're still climbing over each other to throw tax dollars at the financial markets.
Lots of Democrats are hoping the party will not only expand its control over both houses of Congress, but perhaps even achieve a filibuster-proof majority so they can do whatever the hell they want.
Any thoughts on what sorts of things they'll try to accomplish? Or will they just bend over for whoever's in the White House, leaving the thinking to him?

Yes.
But less nervous than the idea of Senator McCain and Governor Palin in the White House.

THe notion is false.
Unless and until I see a major initiative that isn't scuttled by screams from wingnuts.
They have a way of DQing things post haste. And finding some smoking gun to derail progress. Or, quibbling details all the way to the moon. Or teaming with Blue Dogs.
Or, coopting the change agent himself.
I'm looking for NewDeal/GreatSociety stuff. I doubt it's forthcoming.
Oh. And getting out of Iraq. Responsibly, of course. Let's see the monompoly flex on that issue.

Yes, I am.
As I've said several times in the past, our best times come with divided gov't.
I fear they will be even worse than the all Rep period we've just had.

If I were a senior Democrat, I'd be worried about events overtaking the abilities of my party's leadership, (or anyone's really) and being hammered in the general press and by Murdoch's minions in particular. Attempts at laying the blame for these events at the feet of the previous leadership will seem petty even if in some cases are based on fact. Particularly bad times are coming and I'd be surprised if the Democrats have the stuff to be effective at mitigating the badness or get political credit for honest attempts.

Given how useless a Democratic Congress has been so far, I'm not nervous.
I still believe in liberalism today as much as I ever did, but, oh, there was a happy time when I believed in liberals.

From an outsider's perspective, I'd say Democrats are held to a higher standard than Republicans, both privately and publicly. They have a steeper hill to climb. Any stink of failure attributed to Democratic leadership could mean a single term presidency and a short lived majority. That means maybe eight subsequent years of an increasingly radical right wing leadership in 2012 to 2020. Leadership that will make Cheney seem liberal.

If O'Bama gets a second term, then he will have almost certainly deserved it on merit. Bush in 2004 on the other hand....
That being said, Bush's win in 2004 was a major break for far sighted Democrats. O'Bama's win might well be the same for Republicans.

Gonzales hasn't been held responsible for anything.
Goodling got a get out fo jail card. No prosecution by the Attorney General.
Actually, very few had their feet held to the fire.
