Thank you for the heads up on this one. I just sent that link to everyone I know in the World'O Meat who uses an Intel Mac.

Goal Achieved! Oh Crap--My Bad!
My fellow Americans. As you probably know by now, we recently succeeded in reaching one of our Lame Duck Presidential Challenge Goals . Of course, we reached it in perhaps the worst way possible--by destroying the world economy. And while ostensibly President Bush was to get the credit/blame for meeting our goals, the bottom line is that I cannot help but feel personally responsible for the greatest financial collapse since the 1930s.
How was I to know that President Bush would take my challenge so seriously? And, give the man credit, I didn't think there was *any* way he could pull it off. But engineering a total market meltdown - wow - that was pure genius. I clearly underestimated the man.
I'm ashamed that I goaded him into this and take full responsibility for the collapse of any savings you might have. Please accept our free software as my way of apologizing for the global calamity we now find ourselves embroiled in.

Re: Codeweavers says cheap gas = free software tomorrow
I like this part of the official press release too.
On Monday, Oct. 14, gas prices in Minneapolis and St. Paul did just that.
"That morning, I was filling my tank at Big Steve's Gas Palace in St. Paul," said Jeremy White, president and CEO of CodeWeavers. "I had just finished my morning corn dog and 64-ounce Dr. Pepper when I looked at the pump and noticed gas was at $2.79. I screamed ‘Woohoo,' then I yelled ‘Oh, crap!' as I realized every American can now have my software for free. Kind of upsets my fourth quarter revenue projections..."
Since this wasn't technically Bush's doing he could have used that as an excuse to try to weasel out but the fact he didn't shows real integrity IMO.

You had to go and tell everybody, didn't you?
Those servers better not be overloaded tomorrow and I'm able to quickly download MY free stuff, whatever it is.

Good news are for sharing!
The sad part is I'm still on a G4 Powerbook.

Re: Codeweavers says cheap gas = free software tomorrow
Update: Word from CodeWeavers execs is that the free license will be for a download-only flavor of the Pro version (!), including the Games optimized build and the option to share a Windows 'bottle' among multiple users on the same machine. You will have to choose either the Mac or Linux product for your free copy (and I'm looking forward to the stats on that split once the dust settles). Pro licenses are eligible for support/update renewals after one year for $35.
...
Update 2: A number of commenters have pointed out that the original challenge rules said the giveaway day would be on the first of the month following the goal, meaning Nov. 1 instead of Oct. 28. CodeWeavers' press release confirms that the giveaway day will be tomorrow, 10/28 and not 11/1. The giveaway runs from midnight to midnight CST.
Coming up soon now.

Re: Codeweavers says cheap gas = free software tomorrow
Appears to have begun. I downloaded my copy and registered it, but it only seems to be registering as a Standard version, not Professional. Sent off an email and am hoping to hear back soon. Let me know if this is happening with anyone else.

I'm sure it's well underway; I think arkayn forgot to allow for the CDT/CST issue.
Will uki have to 'mark as read?' Stay tuned, we're sure to find out.

Due to high demand during the Lame Duck Free Day, we have temporarily disabled the unlocked builds normally available on this page.
At this time we are offering downloads of our trial version available from our world wide network of mirrors. Please be aware that the trial version can be unlocked to the full version from within the software itself. So you are not missing out on any features this way.

Once the traffic returns to normal levels you can return to this page at anytime if you still wish to download the fully unlocked builds.
For heavily-hit servers, it still came down here at 600-700k. Maybe a minute.

Re: Codeweavers says cheap gas = free software tomorrow
It's plausible. The servers with the full files were taking a beating, so they took those off-line (for fairness) and let their trial servers shoulder the burden. I bet they have a lot more trial servers than full. Doesn't matter, though. It's all the same once it's registered.

Nope, it was 7:11 MST when I posted, which would have been 9:11 CDT.
