re: an advertisement in Mac|Life
After looking through the multi-page spread that the company 1and1.com (web hosting) had in the last issue, it sounded pretty good to me. I went to their site, looked over the packages and prices, and discovered that they offer a "Premium Software Suite" at the $9.99/mo plan that includes Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe GoLive CS2, GIF animator, and some other programs - FOR PC ONLY! Why do companies like this bother with advertising in the Mac community when they don't support the platform?? Do they not think we will notice?? They spend the money on a 6-8 page spread and offer "premium" products that are PC only. That kind of stuff really tweaks me...

It's nothing new. They are clueless. Get used to it. It's been like this since 1984.

Re: re: an advertisement in Mac|Life
Maybe they are thinking that since Macs can run Windows, they may get some Windows-using mac owners as customers.
I know until recently, NetFlixx subscribers could only use the company's streaming offerings via Windows. That has now changed or is changing and I won't have to boot up bootcamp or FusionWare to use it
Just a thought.

I think it also has to do with the people who sell adspace at the parent publishing company not really knowing/caring. Computer ads go in computer magazines, and that's about all they worry about.

Probably, correct. Heck, Adobe's marketing people still don't know what FrameMaker does, and so they still don't market it.

If you want to hear from a former 1and1 customer, go to Patterico's Pontifications and contact the site owner, Patrick Frey. To keep the story short, 1and1 stole Patrick's domain, after Patrick had sent them the money to renew it. They even went so far as to put it up for a phony auction (the 'winner' was part of the scheme). Got a lot of flack from people, and subsequently ended up giving Patterico.com back to Patrick. He's now at a new host.
1and1 web hosting is dishonest and not to be trusted. Frankly, you're better off getting hosted by Geocities or AOL.
