Odd sound distortion on iPod
I have rather limited bandwidth where I live so I had been holding off on downloading any updates on my computer that were more than a couple mb for quite a while. In anticipation of my WotLK coming in the mail this week (which arrived 2 weeks late, box smashed and wet, but that’s a whole different story
), I went ahead and updated everything, to include XP SP3 and iTunes.
I noticed last night that my iPod has really crazy sound distortion. For the most part the instrumentals and background vocals are ok, but certain ranges of those, along with just about all the main vocals sound incredibly faint and have an underwater-like distortion. I noticed it at first while listening to music that I bought off the itms earlier this week, so no it wasn’t corrupt illegal downloads before you suggest that
. I went through listening to other music, and mp3s that I have had and played with no problem for years are now doing the same thing.
I looked up what I could of this online (though more than half the internet is filtered so I wasn’t able to read everything that looked obviously relevant), and it seems that this problem has occurred across various generations of iPods with different software versions/etc, so I can’t really find a good answer on what is causing this. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Odd sound distortion on iPod
Well, the first obvious question: Did you run an iPod update? Because no iTunes update would cause your iPod to sound different. Maybe it did reset your EQ settings or something. Have you checked all the settings on you iPod? And how do those tracks sound when played from your computer? Try it with your headphones to rule those out.
