Freezing Imac3 flatpanel 800 mgz
When I updated to osx 10.4.11 , my imac which has never done this , froze after a few mouse movements. Now it does after 10 minutes. always
I used a red light non mac mouse with a usb signal out of the imacs usb port. It worked well for almost 4 hours and I thought the problem was solved. It returned again. Regular tethered mouses did not work either.
I also tried a mouse pad, cleaning surfaces.
Seems to be a mouse or mgz problem with the OS
Should I try to format with a local tiger. This imac won't work for Leopard and Apple says it is too old (original imac flat panel ) and they won't even look at .
any help appreciated.

Re: Freezing Imac3 flatpanel 800 mgz
Let's backtrack a bit.
Does the whole computer freeze? If you're viewing a movie, will that movie still play?
Can you still use the keyboard? Try something like alt-tab to see if you can do something basic like switching between applications.
How soon after the 10.4.11 update did your computer start freezing?
Have you used this mouse prior to upgrading to 10.4.11?
Did you need to install drivers for the mouse?

Aqu
Yes the whole computer freezes. Can't type can't go anything. Keyboard does not work. This update caused things to go wrong almost immediately starting with missing preferences which I finally found through the help at the local Apple store. The mouse did fine before the upgrade. I did not have to install drivers for the mouse. For a while I tried a red light usb mouse and it worked finally for an hour and then would not go.
I have tried everything . I took off the adb mouse etc which use to work fine but now does not see to work either . A regular mouse did work but after about 15 the freeze would occur. Currently the imac has been on for days without freezing. But after I try using the mouse for awhile , the freezing comes again. I have heard that current imacs have troubles with mouse but there are ways to get that fixed. So far I have searched for other remedies online but no one seems to have a similar problem to mine. The other way to solve is to reformat possibly with the original or later OSX tiger? Others say it is the HD on the imac that is going and that possibly a partition and use on my external drive might help. Thanks for any help or ideas

Try making another user account to see if the problem is system-wide or limited to something in your own user folder.

Re: Freezing Imac3 flatpanel 800 mgz
Hi . new to forum but with something I guess is related :
eMac ,1G , running OS 10.3.9 last updated 3 day ago with 2009-001 update. Restart grey apple , blue screen with progress revolving pins . . . . for ever . No log in screen, no nothing but blue and spining bars.
May be related because I have a Logitech optical 5 button mouse.
Somebody, any idea ?
P.S. It wont start from DVD drive.
cleaned up a bit

I don't see how the 2009-001 Update could install on 10.3. I only see updates for 10.4 and 10.5.

The last update for 10.3.9 was April 15, 2005.
Try removing all third-party peripherals from firewire and usb ports. Plug in with the apple keyboard and mouse. Try to reboot from your DVD.
Reinstall the 10.3 (Panther) OS. Download the 10.3.9 combo and reapply it.
