Upcoming Bento 2 Review

I checked with Leslie Ayers today about MacLife reviewing Bento 2. Her is what she said:

"Our bento 2 review will run in the February 2009 issue, but it is strictly a
product review and doesn't go into the pricing issue. It does, however,
point out some of the problems with address book integration and other buggy
aspects of the software.

Our review should be posted on our website by early January."

Bento 2 is not a pricing upgrade. FileMaker did not fix bugs and put in new features that were of little use and poor integration with address books, etc.

MacWorld, MacUpate, and the Bento fourms all have customers which are upset with FileMakers pricing policy for Bento 2.

I wonder how many other McLife subscribers are disappointed with FileMakers treatment of early adopters
of what amounted to a paid beta version of Bento.

I have removed all family pack versions from our Macs. I feel I wasted my money. Filemaker has lost a
customer.

Re: Upcoming Bento 2 Review

Adding useless features and not fixing bugs, I understand - I remember Word 6, and I fondly remember Mariner Write Lite.

But, what is Filemaker's pricing policy for Benteo 2?

For that matter, what is Benteo? Any alternatives?

yeah, I could look it up, but... I'm lazy.

Bento 1 was $49 single user and $99 family pack.
Bento 2 is the same pricing.
I am not aware of any other alternatives except for FileMaker Pro and the older Appleworks.

Ah, so it's a databse program?

http://www.pure-mac.com/database.html

I'd start there.

I'd expect that integration with iCal, Address Book, or any of the iApps will be a lot tighter with Bento though. That's kinda the way it is with the iApps, too - you can use the older sucky version or the new suckier version, but either way you're stuck hoping the next version is better.

Yeah, I hate iMovie '08. smile

Incidentally, dannsh, did you update to 2.0.2? v.0.0 releases tend to be pretty universally sucky.

No. My understanding is that 2.0.2 was just another bug fix for performance. Printing was not addressed in this version. I tried the demo and found the produce not worth the price.
