who/what is connected?
hi everyone
for some strange reason under shared in the finder window a computer shows up as
mac001b63b0674d
sometimes its there and sometimes it's not
get info says- kind: pc server
otherwise no other info
set-up: 10.5, apple extreme w/lacie drive, 2 imacs hardwired, 1 laptop wireless, appletv, a couple other computers but their off or disconnected
all the computers show up with their respective names when on in shared
any ideas?

There's just some PC around. No biggie. What kind of network are you on, a campus LAN?
Or is it somebody borrowing your wifi network? (Could be a neighbor - a lot of PCs are set up out of the box to connect to the first wifi network they can see.)

it's my home network
i also have a 16 letter password
and its only sometimes that it shows up...so it tells me that someone or something is going on
is there a way too remove it or figure what it is?

Looking at the router you should be able to determine the machine's MAC address. Then if you want you can add a custom rule to your router to block that address.

Yeah, as Levi said, you try to trace/block the MAC address - although I'm guessing "001b63b0674d" is the MAC address. 
Before you block it, compare that address to the stickers on your hardware - you have enough devices on your network, it could easily be one of them.

Or sniffed out. But why hack some home user when there's more interesting WiFi spots to look at.
I'm guessing it's the AppleTV or an iPhone. The PC server would suggest the AppleTV or the Apple Extreme and the LaCie drive share.
I'm reading "mac001b63b0674d" as a Apple Mac and not a MAC address. Now I see what ya did there.

looked at all the stuff and can't find that particular #
before i change the password, how do i go about blocking that # ?
than i would just wait to see who bitch's that they have no internet or something doesn't work
if that fails i'll just change the password to something that i'll forget too...lol

ok found on the AEBS there is a way too block or restrict use "timed access"

Given that this machine is on YOUR network and is a PC server I don't think it goes beyond the bounds of polite society for you, as the network admin, to inspect this device and see what it contains.
After all, it is a Server on YOUR network so, presumably, you are responsible for its contents and the behaviour of whoever uses it.
However, the MAC address you give above (001b63) is registered to Apple Inc. So you might well have ownership already.
