Gee, When the Army Doctor pulled mine, he just told me to suck it up and then he sent me back into the line.
I had no problems with mine. No pain, no angst, no complications.

As I recall, I yacked fairly hard after they removed my IV. Once I was over that woozy / barfy 10 minutes, a few days of soup and advil seemed to keep me rolling. I recall keeping my vicodin for a rainy day. I wasn't in that much pain, but it varies from person to person.

I'm surprised they used Percodan since it contains aspirin (which has a blood thinning effect), Justine. For me they prescribed Percocet one time and Lortab the other two times I had them yank wisdom teeth. I took them the first day or two and ibuprofen after that.

My mom used to bring me to McDonald's for a shake when I got teeth removed. Sorry, she died in 1997 so she won't be bringing you anywhere.

That's funny. Drinking through a straw was one of the things I was specifically told not to do after having my wisdom teeth pulled.
Sucking on a milkshake sounds like the perfect way to dislodge any blood clots in your mouth.

I was out drinking that night. My sister, on the other hand, was in bed for nearly a week.

Fun drugs. They wore off after a few hours and my mouth ached for a couple days. Then I was fine. Except for the stupid "waiting for holes in your mouth to heal" part.

Re: Speaking of unplugged - I get my wisdom teeth removed
I dealt with my lower wisdom teeth the way nature intended - I chomped on ball point pens until I forced them through the gums. There was pain and blood but not as bad as if I let a dentist carve me up.
Patience is a virtue of the weak for it makes them stand still long enough for the strong to crush them with ease.

its amazing how far some people will go to avoid seeing a dentist.

They are pain givers. Even routine cleanings hurt.

They only gave you Vicodin? I got Percodan for my impacted wisdom teeth.
Hydrocodone is pretty strong stuff if you have an appropriate dosage.
Heck, I've been prescribed Vicodin as an alternative to morphine after surgery (I can't really stand morphine).

Re: Speaking of unplugged - I get my wisdom teeth removed
I had all four wisdom teeth removed - all four were impacted. Plus, I had to get an upper molar removed that was out of alignment. So five teeth removed in one dentist visit.
I didn't really hurt that bad. I don't remember using a lot of the prescription stuff my doctor gave me. However, I'm a freak as even extra strength tylenol puts me to sleep.
My dentist told me to drink tea because the tannins help stop the bleeding. I've never heard that anywhere - has anyone here ever heard that from their dentist?
And I agree - tooth cleanings are the worst - I sit in the chair thinking "Hey watch it! Are you cleaning my teeth or mining for gold in there!?".
