Any iPhone updates, news at Macworld '09?

I haven't seen much beyond updated Mac Mini's and perhaps iMacs.  Any chance the iPhone will get bumped up specs or better/cheaper service plans?  Is anyone hearing anything about iPhone stuff next week?

If you want pro apps, get a CrackBerry or Windows Mobile device. The iPhone, despite some gains, is still very much a consumer electronics gadget. I also doubt that ATT will lower the price of service as they're spending a lot to subsidize the iPhone. I would like to see exclusivity end in the coming year - competition is the only thing that will drive the price of service downward. Personally, I'm hoping for better Android phones.

I think we'll see updated iMacs. I would say updated mini, but perhaps it would be best to simply merge the AppleTV and mini. NVIDIA announded the new Ion platform, which would help (9400M graphics, Atom CPU). Seeing how Steve is sending Phil to do the keynote, I don't think we'll see anything earthshattering.

Re: Any iPhone updates, news at Macworld '09?

America's best selling phone, the iPhone, has long been rumored to be scheduled to get a smaller sibling, an iPhone nano.  Now, fueled by moves by some case manufacturers, these rumors are heating up, just in time for the pre-MacWorld buzz.

Third party iPod and iPhone case maker XSKN stoked the fire by launching an "iPhone nano" case section on its site.  The skins are for a phone the same thickness as the iPhone, but slightly shorter.  There are a variety of colors and the protective cases are selling from between $25 and $27.  The site has already received some orders from hopeful Apple fans.

For me, the exchange support in iPhone 3G enabled the use of it as a business phone.

What "pro apps" is the iPhone lacking?

The iPhone doesn't do EVERYTHING a WinMo or Blackberry phone can do yet, but it can do more than enough to be considered a business device.

Final Cut Pro! Duh.

More seriously, does the iPhone have the corporate plans that BlackBerries have?

I don't need it for business purposes.  I'm looking at it as a consumer electronics gadget.  tongue

I hate that it's on AT&T (I'm with TMobile and love their service).  But the Google G1 is just too ugly.  I can't see being happy with that thing in a month or two.

The G1 is made by HTC, not Google. I agree that G1 is lacking, but Google's Android OS will be appearing on more than one phone. Given time, both the OS and the phones it is on should get better.

Then that's truly sad.  HTC makes some much better looking devices than that dog.  I mean, it feels well built in terms of how solid everything is.  But it's a damn ugly piece of equipment.

Ehh, the keyboard and lack of copy / paste are basic usability problems that effect everyone, not just people who happen to work in a cube.

Word.
Just about every smart phone user in my office jumped over to the iPhone once Exchange support came along. I know a few people who would like to do things like, say, edit Word docs.... but those are often the same annoying people who are -so- glued to their phone they won't put it down in a meeting.
