How do you use the time earned without ruining your "perfect attendance?"

Request the day/hours off ahead of time.

I've been chuckling at this.

On our reviews, the middle most column is for "has done what is expected of you", except that you're expected to show up every day for work, regardless of whether they offer you paid sick leave or not. To get exceptional, you'd have to never call in. If you used the amount of sick time they actually give you, you are in jeopardy of being put on a  warning, depending on how it's taken, for example; 6 separate absences a year could put you in the better watch out category, even though we accrue 6 days a year. However, if you took those 6 days at once, it's considered one incident. If you have 15 days on the books and you take them in a  relatively short period of time, you'll probably get canned.

I had a manager tell me once that we shouldn't be getting something (attendance bonuses) for something that was expected of us anyway.

Comp time that can be banked for <40 hours.
Health/Wellness bonus every year. $20 for every month you don't call in sick.
1-4 years 2 weeks vacation, 5-14yrs. 3 weeks, 15yrs.+ 4 weeks
2 personal days a year, 2 sick days a month (bankable upto 6 months)
Longevity bonus every year. It's like extra $50 per year worked.
Uniform allowance is $65 year.
A pension that pays 80% after 25 years of service.

Rumor has it I may get a company car next year. shrug Heard that one before so I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Work place benefits

No one questions us when we use sick time, and I don't believe the fact that we use it counts against us whatsoever.

I work for the government, however--and we work on statutorily-mandated deadlines.
