Folding question.

I ran folding for quite some time on my windows box and it seems that the workunits that i recieved were alot smaller than the ones im now recieving. Does the OS that im running folding on make that big of a difference? Im currently using Slackware 12 as i uninstalled windows.

Re: Folding question.

Yes, the OS makes a lot of difference.   There's actually quite a number of folding subroutines.   There used to be just 2 for Macs:   Gromacs and Tinker dialects.

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html  On this page, on the far right, we see several variations of Gromacs, Tinker and a new dialect called Amber.   My Intel iMac gets only the Gromacs-SMP and GROCVS types, to my knowledge.

On Windows, the GPU card makes a difference.  Team member Onanum runs the GPU client on his Windows machines and he's now 2nd in team production.

Re: Folding question.

I don't have a GPU worthy of folding, but I am going to try to install the Windows SMP client at work.

Re: Folding question.

Man, that Windows SMP install is a pain. It appears to be running properly, although I really don't like having to store Active Directory credentials in the registry. Doesn't look like there's a way to get it to run/connect to the internet through our firewall without it, though.

This first 1760-point (Project 2653) unit may bee too much to finish before the 4-day preferred deadline. (59min for the first 1%). Perhaps it will speed up over the weekend...

24 hours a day for 4 days ?  96 %.    Looks grim for that SMP.  http://homepage.mac.com/oatmeal/MAF/maxes/ComradeFreeware.gif
