iTunes Plus upgrades now ala carte
http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/ … -carte.ars
Finally! I didn't (and would not) drop $39 to upgrade my entire library. I only wanted about 25-30% of my tracks upgraded. Good news.

Re: iTunes Plus upgrades now ala carte
Nice to hear. I didn't really want to spend $1.19 to upgrade Sophie Milman's 4 song "Live at the Winter Garden Theatre". On the other hand, I would gladly pay $3-4 to upgrade her self titled debut album - but it still is not available DRM-free.
Patience is a virtue of the weak for it makes them stand still long enough for the strong to crush them with ease.

Re: iTunes Plus upgrades now ala carte
Does the process still change the date added from the original purchase date to the upgrade date?

I wouldn't mind that so much if it was possible to change the date added in the database, but its not. I use this field for smart albums, and I don't want music I bought 5.7 years ago to start showing up as new.

Not directed at this poster, but the sentiment in general:
Oh, boohoo. What's the big smurfing deal with all this DRM crap? You wanted it, you got it. But yet people still bitch.

I'd like it if we could remove DRM w/o upgrading to higher quality for free.

See what I mean?
I'm just glad I never bought iTunes music. The only songs I have from them was that Pepsi give away 4 or so years ago.
I'd like to be paid to upgrade them.

I have a plan on circumventing the whole "date change" problem. Hopefully it will work.

Re: iTunes Plus upgrades now ala carte
I'm not sure why anyone bitched about DRM in the first place, it wasn't that hard to remove (or even crack as that one dude demonstrated with every itunes update)
Though it is nice to buy itunes plus now, and hopefully with them making the entire store DRM free we'll see more itunes music sales mayhaps? Though the higher quality, while nice for audiophiles, is going to eatup your ipod or whatever quite quickly, marketing for quality? or trying to bump people up to the next larger ipod of the lineup? My 30 gb ipod video is already full, and that's with my old library and only a handful of itunes plus albums, I had to remove all my comedy hour specials and what not to make room as it is.
