RIP Lux Interior

Cramps Singer Lux Interior Dead At 62
Singer died early Wednesday of an existing heart condition.

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/160433 … tory.jhtml

Born Erick Lee Purkhiser, Interior started the Cramps in 1972 with guitarist Poison Ivy (born Kristy Wallace, later his wife) — whom, as legend has it, he picked up as a hitchhiker in California.

...

Their video for the song "Bikini Girls With Machine Guns" also drew rave reviews from Beavis and Butt-head on a memorable episode of the show.

...the Cramps commanded a loyal fanbase, and even earned a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in the form of a shattered bass drum that Interior had shoved his head through.

Ratatatatat!

Re: RIP Lux Interior

And another, from a relatively short-lived but quite seminal band, and a great personal favorite.

Buffalo Springfield drummer Dewey Martin dies
Feb. 6, 2009, 8:13 PM EST

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Dewey Martin, the drummer who helped found the pioneering country rock band Buffalo Springfield with Neil Young and Stephen Stills, has died. He was 68.

Martin was found dead Sunday by a roommate in his Van Nuys apartment, longtime friend Lisa Lenes said. She said Martin had health problems in recent years and she believed he died of natural causes.

Martin, along with Young, Stills, singer-songwriter-guitarist Richie Furay and bassist Bruce Palmer, formed Buffalo Springfield in 1966 and toured with the Byrds. Their debut album included the hit song "For What It's Worth," a solemn observation of 1960s turmoil.

The band broke up two years later amid tension between Young and Stills. Young led a successful solo career and Stills moved on to Crosby, Stills & Nash. Furay formed Poco, another early country rock band.

I'd heard of the Cramps but never listened to them.  With this obit I checked them out on Youtube and the are really good!  Great rockabilly!

Another recent Rock 'n Roll RIP

Based on the findings of the report, my conclusion was that this idea was not a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious.

Re: RIP Lux Interior

1989, New Year's Eve:

I was a member of Jerry Abrams Head Lights, and we had the privilege of doing two simultaneous, psychedelic light shows in two different sections of the Exotic Erotic Ball. In one room was Buck Naked and the Barebottom Boys, the Cramps were in the main room, and our visuals were being projected onto the huge screens behind the bands.

Hopefully Buck and Lux are making music in the next world.

Everything else about the Exotic Erotic Ball sucked, by the way.

Re: RIP Lux Interior

The Cramps were pretty fantastic, even just a year or so ago. I was really bummed about this.

And coming right after Ron Asheton discovered days after he died (which is sad in itself, sounds lonely), its very sucky.

Waiting for the Damned to be found drowned to death or something, or Jimmy Pursey to get hit by a car... no country for old punks these days.

Re: RIP Lux Interior

Like I wrote in my previous post, I really like the Cramps. I've listened to a lot of the stuff on Youtube and bought a bunch of songs on iTunes.  Tough that I got on to them through their lead singers obit.

Re: RIP Lux Interior

I Liked their shirts (never owned one - I'm no poser), not so much their music. And I loved, and still due, various punk/hardcore bands from the late 70s - the mid 90s. And no I don't mean Green Day and fags (no disrespect to homos wink ) and bands like that.

Cramps were cool for what they played and their I don't give a flying smurf, anti-establishment look and style. Kind of like the Butthole Surfers.I admire that.

RIP

Didn't want to. If I showed you some of the photos I snapped that night, you'd understand why.

Terms like, "bridge-and-tunnel," "big hair," and "swinger" come to mind.
