iPhone on T-Mobile

Did a search and didn't come up with anything that answered my questions, so here goes...

I've noticed that to get the iPhone plan that'd work best for me, I'd have to fork out $90/mo, plus the upfront costs, plus a $200 cancellation fee for T-Mobile, looking at about $400 up-front. But, frankly, I can't afford the $90/mo.

On T-Mobile, I could get the same deal for around $65/mo with an unlocked, uninsured, unsupported iPhone purchased off of eBay. I'm pretty prone to dropping phones, so I hope I don't drop this puppy! I also heard that people who've said they want an iPhone, call up T-Mobile to cancel, and have been given huge discounts to use their iPhone with T-Mobile. Confirm/Deny? Also, on AT&T, there's that visual voicemail feature. I don't think I totally need that... That's not available for T-Mobile, correct?

What are the big differences between an iPhone on AT&T and one on T-Mobile, that I have missed?

Also, is there anywhere else besides eBay that I could order an unlocked/jailbroken iPhone for around $300?

And lastly, do I really need a 3G or am I good with a 2G? Boise, ID doesn't have 3G coverage yet. Nearest place would be Seattle.

Thanks!

Re: iPhone on T-Mobile

2G is good enough, especially if you keep Javascript off.   Besides, as you said, 3G wouldn't do much good.

An acquaintance, past member of the forums, as done jailbreaking but I don't know the circumstances.

Re: iPhone on T-Mobile

I currently have my first-gen iPhone on T-Mobile, which I jailbroke and unlocked using Pwnage Tool.
It's a very straight-forward process, thanks in no small part to the great efforts of the Dev Team.

I pay $68 per month, taxes included, for 1000 anytime, unlimited nights and weekends, unlimited data, and 400 text messages, which includes sending photos, etc. T-Mobile is actually quite nice and professional to the customer.

And 3G isn't all there yet. I don't miss it. YMMV.

Hope that helps smile
