Missing Sync (not) and iCal (crashing)

Short of my long is that Missing Sync began not syncing my Curve and in turn inadvertently Quitting my iCal app.  I have been troubleshooting but nothing is panning out.

Should I first reinstall both... working with my .icbu file of iCal, pre-crash and see if that corrects it?  How can I uninstall/reinstall iCal without my boot disk?

Thanks for your time.

Make backups first.   Let's do a full backup of your Home / Library computer.  Move that folder to an external drive and call it  "Backup Library 2009-2-25".

What version of OS X are you running ?  10.3, 10.4 or 10.5 ?  It sounds like 10.5 based on the file name.

Are you familiar with any of these maintenance programs :  Yasu, Cocktail, Onyx ?    With these, you can 1) repair permissions 2) run the "daily, weekly, monthly" and 3) clear caches.   Use Yasu to do 1 , 2  and 3.   Do not do other functions at this time.   Yasu download for 10.4 or 10.5 http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13416

Nefarious, thank you for taking the time to respond.....

I am running 10.4.11 and have everything backed up via SuperDuper every couple of days.  I am unsure as to whether or not the last SD BU is operating the same as the current.   I purchased Cocktail after Disk Utility failed to repair any permissions. I have run every test that I think it's capable of, including the three check stops you outlined above and iCal is still crashing.  If I knew how to post an image on this forum, I would show you the error message I received from iCal... the title reads: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xbf7fffb0

I cannot find a direct download of iCal for 10.4 and am quite perplexed as to what might be the issue if everything is reportedly running clean.

What do ya think?

Re: Missing Sync (not) and iCal (crashing)

To re-install 10.4, you have 2 options.

1. Use the Pacifist program to extract and re-install iCal.

I don't recommend this right now.  Instead go to Plan #2 , try that and if that fails, then we can try plan #1.

2. Re-install 10.4.11.   Do this by downloading 10.4.11 COMBO updates and reinstall.  DO NOT START iCAL.   Go to Software update and install all of the OS Security updates for 10.4.11.  Repeat until there are no more security updates.

Process completed.  I still have iCal crashing:
Exception:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes:      KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xbf7fffb0

Now, upon start/restart, Finder loads then, when I make the first move to my mouse, Finder crashes and restarts.  Only once at the beginning and then its all good.

Re: Missing Sync (not) and iCal (crashing)

Never fixed the issue.  I think the iCal file was corrupted before my last SuperDuper backup. SOL!  Markspace was useless (i.e. non responsive) on this issue BTW, not impressed.

Cocktail is cool though and I will be installing it on my MacBook 2.4 when I take delivery tomorrow! Any way to cure a bad icbu?

If I recall Missing Sync only works with the user who installed it with out some hacking.
