Riddick: Dark Athena demo
Downloaded it last night on XBL but won't get a chance to play it for a few days probably.
I played the first game (Escape from Butcher Bay) and enjoyed it, but never bought it... and now with a remake coming on the Dark Athena disc, I'm glad I didn't.

Re: Riddick: Dark Athena demo
Even having played through the first game on PC, this demo was holy-crap-alicious. It's odd, but Halo 3 was Halo2HD in a /groan kinda way, but this is RiddickHD in a
kinda way.

Re: Riddick: Dark Athena demo
Got to leave work early today and had a chance to play it... some elements are kind of crappy still (low-res textures and bump-mapping), and maybe that's just because it's a demo, but the overall production values are still very high, especially the voice acting.
The controls are not what I'm used to, and the gameplay seems to support the run-and-gun style too much (versus sneak-and-stab; Splinter Cell FTW).
It'll probably go on my List Of Games To Buy When They're Down To Half Price.

Re: Riddick: Dark Athena demo
i'm seriously looking forward to this game.
played the demo. graphics didn't blow my mind, but they're sharp, and overall production values shine as others have said.
the original was an amazing single player experience covering all sorts of gameplay styles. i remember how short the original butcherbay demo was. i have confidence that the new campaign will not disappoint while including lots of variety.

Re: Riddick: Dark Athena demo
Suddenly I'm wishing even morely I'd nabbed the original back when.
DRM limits Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena to 3 installs
Apparently Atari hasn't learned from EA's DRM fiasco with Spore last year, shipping the PC version of Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena with DRM that limits the number of game activations to just three PCs. The game doesn't ship with a revoke tool to deauthorize machines, so you're basically limited to 3 installs.
As you can imagine, users in the Atari forums are pretty upset over the matter, and already lead one user to setup a blog on blogspot.com concerning DRM in games.
Atari has issued the same blanket statement other publishers have used in the past saying "if you reach the maximum number of installations you can contact the Atari hotline and if it’s a legitimate request you can get a new activation code."
Of course, the problem with these DRM schemes is that they're tied to the hardware in your machine, so if you upgrade too many components at once, or re-install your OS, that counts against your 3 installation limit. At the very least, Atari should've known to provide a revoke tool either online or on the game disc, not to mention the fact that they don't mention the installation limit on the game's packaging.
Learned nothing from EA's intention to ship The Sims 3 sans DRM, as well. Grr.
There should be a law against that last part. Is this part of a quiet move to end the selling of used games, I wonder? There've certainly been enough editorials on those lines (used games are bad, mkay?) lately- last I recall was from Nintendo, last month maybe.
